That'll teach you for having brothers and sisters You missed a good meeting, although some guy was going on about vector images (which I thought at best, looked uninteresting) and lost me half way through.
What was MOST interesting KL was that Dad was looking at studio flash equipment (which was on display) to buy for "his" studio
Haha
Dictionary meaning of "his"...
His pn.
That of which he thinks he owns, but is actually owned by Kelsey-Lee. :p

Now to share a photo :) Was playing round with my flash the other evening after the rain.
Well done Helen. It's so great to see shots of flowers with REAL rain on them and not sprayed on stuff. And a good job with the flash...was it "on camera"?

Speaking of new gear, has your 1d come yet Nick ?
Still waiting. Believe me, you'll know when I finally get a hold of it. I won't be keeping that piece of information to myself. Although the excitement may be dulled somewhat by the extended wait.
Nice shot, Helen.

I got on the phone to Photo Continental after that last post to get an update.
They tell me Canon aren't giving them much help with an ETA for future Mark III deliveries yet.
The good news however is that out of the 32 people they now have waiting for that camera I am at the TOP of that list - hooray!

Thanks, it was off camera with a reflector on the ground beneath, would have fired the flash downwards onto the reflector and just let it bounce back up to the flower.

If that would work, I assure you, I'd already have at least one of their phone lines tied up.
I'd need to do something extremely radical for them to take notice of lowly old me. Maybe I could walk in there with a bunch of Coolpix strapped to my chest?

Haha, thanks. Maybe I should start reading the manual now.
The 2N had 21 custom functions and 27 personal functions. The III has basically consolidated them all into custom functions. There's still about a dozen new ones from what I've read though.

Lovely shots Helen and Tina. I'm guilty of adding water to get a better shot myself so don't really care.
Wish I could have made it to BCG last night but had other things on. Got home last night and tried to log on to catch up here and found the rain had gotten into the broadband cables somewhere in the street so I was without an Internet connection.
I'm itching to take some photo's. Could have gone out to take some more volleyball shots this weekend as I've been invited to shoot a comp on this weekend in Brissie but I had organised other things. Been getting more feedback from the team I shot and it's all been very positive.

Photo Continental have a tag for it in the display cabinet next to the 5D but naturally, no actual MkIII on display yet. ~$6000 is the going price apparently.
Would someone be able to tell me if anyone in Australia sell 5D's with the 24-105mm f4L? I'd prefer to get both from the same place for a lower price if possible. Adorama sell them as a combo but I don't know how long our exchange rate will hold up for.

I'm getting my 5D from them (just ordered and paid today :)) Bought my 30D from them too... I think they're grey, but I'm not complaining :) Not sure if that's a cheap price... could try DDP or Qual Cams? That's a pretty standard kit.

I went for another job interview yesterday at a local coles and they just loved me :D She reckons she's going to put me right into a supervisory position, which is good and bad because i was looking forward to a mind numbing job for a little while, but I *should* get more pay.
So now I will have two jobs (technically three though if you include bunings) I so I should be able to fund my hobby again :D

Lol, one of my mates used to work for coles and she said the same thing. I'm actually looking forward to it after having the business for 16 months, mind numbing is good at the moment! I'd prefer to be just a checkout chick or nightfill or something but apparently I'm over qualified and she wants me to be the night supervisor.
It's only for a few months anyway, enough time to save up to move to melbourne then I'll really concentrate on my photography business.

Hey what combination of printer/paper do you guys use for your prints usually?
I use an Epson R800 but will upgrade soon to an Epson Pro 3800. Generally I stuck to the Epson papers, but became a bit more adventurous lately and tried the fine art papers. I gotta tell ya, Black and Whites look STUNNING on Hahnemuhle Photorag, but you have to download the correct printer profile for each different paper.
I'm going to try some of the other Hahnemuhle paper soon and some of the Canson paper looks good too.
Well what do you ppls use?

Hey Paul
I don't tend to print much at home, cos I just don't have the money.
If I do, I just use Canon's photo paper pro and my trusty 5200R.
Work has a WF6400 though which i've been tempted to print a canvas print or two on... :)

I generally just get my prints done at Hardly Normal... err, Harvey Norman.
What's everyone doing for the holidays? (or, is it only school/uni kids holidays?).
I'm not sure if I'm going to go, but I think Mum's planning to take me camping at the beach. But I'm hesitant cause it's so cold... and there won't even be showers/toilets. But I like camping, and the photo ops will be great... that is if Dad lets me take the camera camping.

Yep checkouts....any idea what the pay is like for casual?
Yeah, need a job to fund the move to melbourne. Long term is to live in brissy or further north, but for family reasons aaron and I have to move to melbourne, maybe for a couple of years then back up this way :D

The city could be nice? or a walk from say southbank to under the story bridge?
or redcliffe/shorncliffe area?
or Mt Cootha?
all depends on what time people are thinking.
In terms of prints - I go digilab for prints and harvey norman for 4x6 snaps

Since you are over 20 ;) casual is $19.6484/hr though you will get a little bit more for been a supervisor though - not much though. Good to read the bargaining agreement http://www.sda.org.au/awards.php to see all the details
Nick, what glorious job do you for the fantastic coles group??

I went for a Kata bag, after reading around online. It is SUCH a hassle to get on. That typically, by the time I've removed the lens from body, letting all the dust in, the rain has usually already passed by!

I had a stange thought while i was riding in a cab today, that i really would like to get a bunch of primes so if i wanted to i could just pack them in the bag and go street shooting.
What i would choose would be,
canon 28mm f2.8 or sigma 30mm f1.4
my 50mm f1.8
canon 85mm f1.8
and either the canon 100mm f2.8 macro or the sigma 105mm f2.8 macro
So tell me, am i crazy?

Go the canon 24mm f2.8 - you will really appreaciate the extra couple of mil.
My brother basically just uses his 24mm and 50mm on his 300d now and loves it, he keeps one lens in his jacket pocket (he lives in Iceland) and the other on his camera.
When I get my 5d(x) I want to pick up some other primes probably the 85mm and something wider than the sigma 30mm that I have.
In terms of just cruising round taking photos I love the two primes I have and they are so versitile.

Where's that :| I have no idea where that place is :|
It's up the back of Burleigh Heads somewhere.
Failing that...perhaps a drive to the Border Ranges National Park and the Brindle Creek walk (Might be a bit of dirt road on that one.) The BRNP is on the Murwillumbah-Kyogle road.
Perhaps a trip to the Railway Works Museum at Ipswich?
Want to be a bit more adventurous...take the barge across to Straddy (if we can book)?
What about a trip over to Bribie Island (sorry Kinnon)?
For the healthy among us, a climb up Mt Warning. A tough climb if you take camera gear!
Or for an easier climb, Mt Ngun Ngun in the Glasshouse Mts is good. It's about a half hour climb and only a little bit of rock scrambling?
The walk to the falls at The Knoll at Mt Tambourine could be good now?
The Lions Club road from Rathdowney to Kyogle is very scenic and a full day's drive.
There's a few suggestions. Kinnon, how about you....this Mignon Falls sounds good...where is it?
