cool im there.. i managed to borrow some filters and stuff :)
Well theyre pretty useless ones actually:
-> 16-point star filter
-> +3 close-up filter
-> variable star filter
The only problem is that gotta use the star filters at night... oh and i got a tripod too. not really sure if i wanna cart it on the train... well we will see :D
on another note - i was setting up sound at the toombul cinemas today for church and i grabbed a quick snap of this place:

Only just got the manual out for my 5D (shameful I know) and I found out what the 'B' and 'C' are for you Paul. B is bulb and C is for the custom functions.
I just read that there's a noise reduction. Is there any downside to using the noise reduction setting? Does it do anything to the IQ?
::John::
10th of June 2007 (Sun), 08:47
Doubles the length of time taken by the camera to process each shot, Kinnon
You'll get less noise and, therefore, the IQ is somewhat better straight out of the camera.

I read the manual specifically to find out what those do. 'C' is sorta more profiles... like if Helen prefers to use different custom functions, then you can define a different set in there. Useful for couples who don't like to use * button for focus... and the other half does. Good thing Helen just uses whatever I use... and she even reminds friends that * is focus... and asks me if I have told them yet :) hehehe cute...

I gave my sensor it's first blow dust... and also cleared up a magenta spot on the sensor using the ol sensor clean with the lens trick... worked for me again here ;)

I don't use the in-camera noise reduction. If I am shooting ISO 1600 or 3200 then I let Neat Image take care of the noise during post-processing. The reason it takes twice as long in-camera is because the camera takes the picture and then shuts the shutter and spends the same time matching the closed shutter (black) with the exposed picture and using the difference as a noise comparison. The internal processor does a cleanup on the pic.
Blow is fine. I gave mine its second ever wet clean on Friday - the car rally the weekend before had really left things a bit spotty and the blower was not coping.
Hmmm - magenta cell on the sensor? I have been lucky not to get any of those.

I did.
There was a post I read today where Copperhill are looking further into the problems people are having.
My 5D is an early serial number and Copperhill (Eclipse fluids) suspect that the original fluid will be fine. They suspect the new fluid should be used on the newer serial numbers - but they are still tracking that and will cover any sensor repairs if their fluid has damaged the sensor.
Fingers crossed I suppose.
In over a year I have wet cleaned my sensor twice so I really don't think it will be damaged from over zealous cleaning :)

I had a couple of faint ones on my 30D as well as one BRIGHT one.... tried a trick on something I saw on dpreview, and it fixed it up. Had a tiny iddy biddy magenta one on this cam, and one cycle cleared her up... Only showed up on a 30 second exposure though.

I'm thinking of selling my bag and getting something else because once all my gear is in it the laptop doesn't fit, so I'm thinking of getting something that's better on the space for me gear. I guess I can always just *look* at the bags there to see what's out there....
But I need some more memory, and a tripod and a monopod, and some filters, and well.....just heaps!

Sorry John:oops:
Not invisible, just overlooked in my speed to pack for this mornings outing. You may have noticed that pages of postings appear in a matter of minutes in this thread:D I've gotten into the (bad) habit of skimming too quickly through them. I should have picked up on your response.
As to Kinnon's question, I investigated this matter just recently and found that now...Photosol (who make the Eclipse fluid) recommend the ORIGINAL Eclipse for the 5D ( SEE THEIR WEBSITE HERE (http://www.photosol.com/cameras_bymfg.html) ) but Eclipse E2 for the 1D Mark III !! It seems not all Tin Oxide coated low pass filters are created equal. I can believe the confusion this creates. It makes me think that you'd be better to avoid touching the sensor filter until more time passes.
Also, how come if you bugger up the low pass filter by cleaning it too vigorously, they can't just replace the filter? Instead Canon has to replace the WHOLE sensor???

well I have just loaded all mine and done the first run through with the delete button. What a day though. 10 people, 11 cameras, X lenses, a gazillion photos.
Mum asked me how many photos I took and I held up my little stack of CF cards, she goes how many is that, so I say bit over 300 but that doesn't include the photos I took on the cameras owned by Wakko and Three as well as I think I took some on Spam's camera as well.
Ahhh the 5d is one gorgeous camera.

hey guys, just came home a couple of hours ago from a fantastic w/e. Those of you who belong to camera clubs should put psq on your list. It was held in the redland bay area, over the 3 days, lots of guest speakers on different topics, and tons of fun, meeting like minded people, just a blast! I also won a bottle of wine with the best photo of the w/e. I managed to get myself a very cute little wren, will have to post it tomorrow or whenever though.
Sorry to have missed what seems a great day out at roma st, would have loved to have been there.
Great piccies there folks, paul, you really have a wonderful eye for landscape!

Great shots Greg, they turned out heaps better than any of my macro shots.
For all those interested, i created a set on flickr that will eventually have all of todays shots from me that i edit in it. It can be found here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/-spam-/sets/72157600337080365/)
Keep checking back over the next few days to see what else i add. With over 600 shots to go through, it might take some time... ;)

There seems to be quite a few people selling their 350d's and 400d's to fund a move to a 30d at the moment, so it shouldnt be too hard to find one on here.

what do you use to clean lenses Greg?
Never had to do a major job on a lens. I normally just use a blower on the front and rear elements. I do sometimes use a microfibre cloth on the front filter if it's grubby. I also have a small bottle of Kodak lens cleaner and dry lens wipes. I used these once on a filter, yuck, took ages to clean the smeary mess it made. Needless to say I haven't touched it again.
My Kookaburra is back and brought two friends! I just spent 5min watching it chase a peewee around my backyard. It then preceded to eat some of the dates from the Triangular palm.... don't know if they are any good for it but I suppose it should know.

ohh I know what I wanted to say! My kenko tubes arrived today not that I have a chance to play with them yet.
Trying my hand at the animation thing. This is me saying how much I love RAW files - The sun played with my lens and I told it where to go by bringing back my exposure by 2 2/3 stops. Yeah Sun you think you are playing with me but I know who is boss.
lol @ the animation

Great shots, everyone! I'm enjoying these.
Looks like you all had a ball yesterday.
Those animations are great!
Feng, can you put me down for a lens pen too, please? I normally just wipe with a cloth like Greg mentioned but I think I'll splurge and have a look at one of these things.
I can't believe that you've only just reached the 200th page in the last hour. What have you all been doing? ;)
Oh, and what was the story with this drunk? Was someone trying to take his picture?
And sorry to hear to went home with a bug, Helen. But, with David's GIF as exhibit 'A', I can't say I'm surprised ;)

On a different note altogether a lot of you guys really know your stuff. Is that through repetitive learning (i.e. self taught) or is it better to do some kind of part time course?
join a camera club, surround yourself with people who love photography, and it will come. Read the forums and take note of what is said re critiques. and shoot heaps and heaps!!

For Tafe today, we went to this guys little studio at Annerley.

It was great, he spoke to us for about an hour and a half about how he got into the industry and how it was a struggle for his first couple of years and just things like that. He also showed us slideshows of his Commercial, Portrait and Wedding Photography. Very inspirational :D .
