if you're with the same bank as them, then it'll clear tomorrow...
they wont' post till it clears, but mine cleared next day.
when I buy from them, I tend to email them. He gives me a bit of a discount on accessories (like grip, batteries, handstrap etc)... but on the body, it was already discounted.
you can post comments too, and grats on 500 posts :)

kinnon, go BUY a heater!!.
I have one of those oil heaters under the house but they use heaps of power. My landlord just needs to get their arse into gear and fix our air con that was working fine 3 weeks ago. We've been patient with it all, but now I'm starting to get a bit cranky.

I agree with the cold sentiment, I'm sitting here in front of the computer in my jumper (with hood on to keep my head warm) inside a sleeping bag, with two pairs of socks, and I'm still cold.
But I have come up with an ingenuous invention, a heat generating keyboard and mouse to stop fingers from falling off in this cold.

Ok i need some help it appears my 70-200mm f/4 L is playing up. The other day i was taking some real crystal clean sharp shots of ducks. yet the last couple of shoots i have done i cannot seem to get any sharpness from my images. Shutter speed, ISO, aperture, have all been adjusted and shots taken. I even mounted it on a tripod and took photos remotely but they still seem to have a softness around the edges. If anyone can help id greatly appreciate it, even if someone wants to borrow the lens over the weekend to test it for me just in case it is my camera body that could be faulty.

I think I'm going to cry.....
To fund my gear spending spree I sold some of my wesfarmer shares (342 to be exact) that bunnings gave me. I sold them for $38 each, I waited and waited and waited till they reached a high price. The $38 price was the highest they've been in a loooong time.
I checked the asx website this morning and they've gone up to $44.50. Almost overnight. Not happy. That's a $2223 difference. If I had just waited a few more weeks.......

If it were up to me I wouldn't buy a heater - they're a waste of money in my opinion. There's nothing there that a jumper and some trackpants can't solve. :p You only have to spend a small amount of money once, instead of continuously forking out money for the power bill.

Yeah, but he doesnt really use his 20d much, instead he takes his 5d everywhere. So at least he has true 24mm which isnt too bad.
Wide is going to be my next purchase after the 24-70, im thinking about the 10-20, just to get that little bit wider. And perhaps a peleng 8mm fish eye :)

true right I don't approve! go wide!!! See I sound just like a football coach. psst 24mm full frame, that isn't wide ;) that is just what you see with one eye, sst. To truely see full frame you need at least 16mm, 12mm is preferable.

I tell you my thermals - just your normal coke bottle ones from Mountain Designs or similar are the best money I have ever spent. I wear them each week at work when I am working in the freezer for a couple of hours straight. You wear the pants under jeans and stay toasty warm whilst everyone else is complaining about the wind going through their jeans. Added bonus is that they stop the mozzies as well.

Well... EF on a full frame, 17-55 is pretty wide and short, and IS probably isn't as required. 17-55 on crop is slightly longer at the long end being 88... and perhaps required when the light gets a bit lower? bleh don't know :|

17-55 on 1.6x Crop is about 28-88 roughly... which at 88 is a bit longer than 70 on a full frame (if you get my drift?) bleh..

Well I have to get a travel lens soon so in order of purchase:
EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM (traveller that I'll keep).
EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS (great travel lens that I'll probably sell afterwards)
Peleng 8mm for fun:D

As much as I'd love to get hold of one of those or even more a 500 f4L IS, my next lens purchase will probably be a 16-35 f2.8L II to replace my 17-40. Not anytime soon though.

grab another battery just in case, take more memory than you need and keep the batteries in your pockets to stop them discharging by themselves in the cold.

Yeah I thought about replacing my 17-40 with the new 16-35 but I don't use it for much other than landscapes (and I don't quite have the FF issue of soft edges) so I figured the extra $1000 or so would prove more useful in paying for the 135.

I only have two batteries, but I think they'll last a week.
Let's see... I bought my camera in January. It came with batteries, which ran out on the third roll of film. Changed the batteries then, and they're still on full (three bars) four months and 18 or so rolls later. :D
But digital drains the batteries quicker, am I correct? :)

Ok so, 18 x 24 shots = 432 shots so far. I only just had to change the battery in my 20d after putting just a touch over 1000 shots through it. But yeah, digital drains them pretty quick compared to film cameras. Im still on the same battery in my film slr that i put in there over a year ago.

Close. Not all the rolls were 24-exposure, there was 6 or so left on roll 3 after I changed the batteries and I've only used 8 exposures on roll 21 (my current roll). So that makes 506 out of the 572 I have taken. (well... as far as I can calculate anyway. :p)

Feng, matching up your printer output with the monitor is a black science that only a few people in the world understand. (Just kidding.) But it is confusing.
Most problems arise when you get Photoshop to do the colour management, but don't switch off colour management in your printer. You also have to load printer profiles for each different type of paper you use. You should also use your monitor calibrator every month. It helps to have a monitor setup for photographic work too.

What printer do you have? The canon one that we have has a setting in the software that allows photoshop to determine the colours and we havnt had a problem since i checked that box. The alternative is for the printer to determine colours, but with that selected, the prints always came out too cold looking.

yeah i didn't do that the first time, but it came out better than the second time. I might practice on some cheap paper that I got with some cartridges (canon photopaper glossy)... I was trying to print them out as A4 to put on the wall in a frame or something :)

I just realised something, if i buy a battery grip for the 20d, im going to need a larger bag. The 6 million dollar home wont fit that, the 28-135, tubes, 50mm, lensbaby and 12-24 (let alone the flash) at once. Maybe i will have to get the 7 million dollar home aswell

Yeh my 6MDH gets a little cramped quickly if I try to much in it. I usually limit to a 30D+grip with smaller lens on, one lens and a flash. You can never have too many camera bags.
My current list

Computrekker AW
Kathmandu backpack with camera pouch on bottom.

15.4. But I've got so much in the bag that it doesn't let me squeeze my laptop in. When I have my bag packed with just one body and a couple of lenses my laptop fits....just. But because I've got so much crammed in it leaves no room for the laptop.

Another very true statement. And i think that there may have been a subliminal message in there as well
hehehe, and that doesn't include the belt and the lens cases and other dodads.;) They all have their uses, though not all get used at the same time.

I have 3 bags left - I gave away 2 last year. Kinnon - it may just be me but I prefer to keep my laptop on a separate bag - sorta on the theory that if a bag gets nicked or lost, I haven't lost the lot.

Well I've spent most of the time looking through the manual and going through the menus/settings. I think it's going to take a little while before I know I've got it setup the way I want it.
Anyway, here are a couple of not-so-interesting pics (Greg was right about the penguins!):

15.4. But I've got so much in the bag that it doesn't let me squeeze my laptop in. When I have my bag packed with just one body and a couple of lenses my laptop fits....just. But because I've got so much crammed in it leaves no room for the laptop.
No hurry if you're interested. I'm in no rush.
Cheers :)

I would normally think the same. But in the case of flying to melbourne and also travelling other places, i would rather cut down as much bulk as i can. Although ill probably end up putting the 6 million dollar home in my checked luggage for walks and things like that.

I don't mind the idea of that Brazillion Dollar Home. I'd like to see one in person to get an idea of how big they actually are. I'm thinking it might be a bit too heavy when carrying on the shoulder fully loaded (with tripod and laptop ) for a lengthy period of time though. But for just getting your gear to a spot and then setting it down it seems like a decent alternative to a backpack.

John, I'm partly of that school of thought too. But on occasions like when we had out last POTN meet it would have been handy to have my laptop in my bag because I don't have much memory at the moment so I needed to off load to the laptop as I went.
Before I bought it I thought it would be handy to have everything in the one bag. But mostly I prefer to have my laptop and other bits and pieces in a seperate bag .

Options man, options thats what all of the bags are for.;)One thing you will find is that any bag full of camera gear and a laptop is HEAVY! I do thins on the odd occasion but try to avoid it where I can. I mean there is a serious chance that you will fall over backwards. Up until recently I was flying a lot between Canberra and Sydney (I am now driving it) and I used to pack my laptop and the long lenses in the suitcase and carry a camera bag onto the plane with as much as I could stuff in it. (I also put my tripod in the suitcase - I had a tripod smashed by Virgin Blue on a flight from Perth to Sydney because they wouldn't let me strap it to my checked baggage [like Qantas did] and insisted on it going into the hold by itself. They were kind enough to put a FRAGILE sticker on it to identify it to those who break things twixt conveyor and hold.).

I'll second that, when I put everything in my bag, plus laptop (just not zippered up) I put it on my bck and actually took a stumble backwards. There is NO way I could carry it around for a period of time. It's heavy enough as it is.

They had one at photocontinental on their crumpler stand. I had a look and it is huge
Like a 7 million dollar home but wider and with a big bit on the back for a laptop. Lots of storage in that one.

I have a P-2000 for offloading cards while shooting. It's a bit slow but easily fits in an available pocket.

I have come to the conclusion that bags, like lenses, are a compromise - there is no one ideal solution (in my opinion). I agree - the more the merrier! ;)

Yeah, I feared it might be ridiculously large. And with more than a 100% price premium over the 7 MDH there's no doubt better value-for-money options.

I try to limit what I take out. Can no longer fit everything in the bag. So every time it is Decisions Decisions!! (slaps head as he says this). It weights a lot less once the body and one lens are out.

Been thinking of doing this myself. Now the laptop is paid off on the salary sacrifice, there is a bit of extra cash floating about. Mmmmm:D Feng and I were discussing this the other day, Salary sacrifice a new laptop and a 50" LCD as the display - somehow I don't think my conservative work would go for this.

The newer P3000 and P5000 units are a lot faster than the P2000. The P5000 is about the same price as the 2000 was when I bought it.
If I am at an airshow, I find it to be really handy - I keep shooting with my other cards while the 4Gb is downloading then I just spend the rest of the day swapping and downloading.
You can download other peoples cards, too, as each download is treated separately and has its own folder so you can split them out at the end of the day.
I like that it will display JPG and RAW pictures, too.
