Oh and here's the link for PROLAB (http://www.prolab.com.au/Prolab2/web2/Main_htm_Files/Final%20Pages/Final%20Main%20Pages/Final%20Main%20html%20Pages/Company%20Details.htm). I've had some pretty good results from them over the years.

I took a couple of rolls of film in there once. Got there and there was no one at the front desk, rang the bell and waited 10 minutes. Rang the bell again and waited longer.

Think i waited for over half an hour and after ringing the bell several times no one came out. I left with my film saying that photo continental can get my money.

So what is new apart from the usual not so sublte subliminal messages plus the cold cold COLD Brisbane Winter ... oh yeah .. everything is going up in price .. that is right folks ...

Found this native bee on a peg and could not/would not fly for some reason.

So, I spent an hour or so taking its picture. Lucky me, it did not sting me :D since I think I am allergic to them. Got swollen hand a while back with a wasp I believe.

Enjoy another extreme cold night :D

Peace

Hey Guys, sorry to interrupt the not-so-subliminal lens buying encouragements, but where would one go to print photos in Brisbane?

Say if I wanted something enlarged and put in a frame for all to see.

Thanks

I get my prints done at Kayell labs, you can google it, and you can spend an arm and a leg at a framers getting it framed, or chat to me, I can mat and frame, but am busy till end sep.

I went in a couple of months ago and there was someone at the desk. Asked him how much for a 36 exp. roll of colour print film and he said somewhere in the vicinity of $40. They can do a develop only for a reasonable price, but to print it they scan it on a negative scanner and print from the digital file, charging for both. On top of that they charge for each individual frame that gets scanned and printed. You're lucky you didn't waste your money, Sam - they're out of their minds.

Thanks Tina, I'll check them out too.
In regards to framing, I'm not yet ready to make the plunge, nor have a photo worthy of getting profesionally framed.
I'm more looking at just buying a half decent frame to suit my picture.

Thanks all for the help.

Just throwing out an idea for those who have nothing to do on Saturday.

Why not go take pics of the hundreds of Harry Potter's lining the streets to get the book? I'm dressing up with my friends (lol, cause we're cool like that) and getting the book before anyone can spoil it for me. I'll only be taking my P&S, but it's pretty good.

Just to continue the general tone of this thread recently.

Anyone interested in a seldom used, as new condition, 50mm F1.8, make me a reasonable offer and it's yours. Complete with orignal box etc. Going to upgrade to 50mm F1.4 for the USM when I'm shooting Volleyball.

Oh, bugger. I just bought one yesterday :-(

Framing is not that hard - I suggest looking in the local TAFE adult type courses. I did one in Canberra - years and years ago - that went for 6 weeks (2hrs each Wednesday night).

It certainly works out cheaper in the long run and gives great satisfaction to do it yourself.

just a tip yuztoo, get your photo printed, take a blank sheet the size of your photo, and then shop for a big enough frame. You can then, if needed, get a mat to suit the frame, as i have found ready made frames to be a bit difficult to match with the inbuilt mat. (if they have one)

Today was a very hectic day for me indeed. Me, my wife and Connor welcomed the latest addition to the Lewis family. Stella Maree came into this world at 12:47pm 20/07/2007. Attached are photos of the main attraction as well as the the Lewis Clan with their newest member. I won't go into as much detail as Luke did ;) but suffice to say that i feel for what he and his wife went through.

Has anyone used a Sigma EF-500 DG ST E-TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 165'/50 m at 105mm) for Canon EOS with E-TTL II? At around USD150 it looks to me as a fair replacement for a 430EX.

Connor, sorry for forgetting to congratulate you. Here we go ... "Congratulations on the arrival of the new baby". I am sure your household is enjoying the new member of the clan. Lots of smile ... or rather happy crying ???? Well, with children both parents have their moments I am sure.

Hope your older children gotten their Harry Potter's last book. I saw lots of happily jumping children at the sales' opening. Now, I was a bit blushed when asked by Peter Beattie if I was a photographer. Not sure what to answer to that one ????? (he was just asking for someone to take a picture of the security guy with him with the cam phone). A journoulist saved the day with the offering and leaving me more time to take Mr Premier's photo instead:D.

Hope your days been good and lots of photos. Great day out there. Clouds and sky were very nice.

Peace

Yeah I love the reach... still a bit ho hum about push pull zoom, but I'm sure it's one I'd get used to. I don't think this copy I'm using is all that sharp... but it seemed ok when I went out shooting today. I don't think I could've got half the shots I got today with a 70-200 :).

lol - um - what are you really saying...

It was quite easy - just like flying interstate here now but with the bonus of duty free that was true duty free. Kiwis were restricted, back then, with how much cash they could carry out of the country ($1000 a trip to a maximum of $4000 a year and anything over that had to be approved prior to travel) but a grand bought a LOT of things then. (for example and perspective, $25,000 bought me a three bedroomed house in Auckland)

It doesn't happen all the time, it is intermittent, and doesn't matter if i shoot raw or jpeg. Do the images appear on your computer if you put the card in its card reader? If so, your camera is recording the images, so maybe the LCD screen on your camera isn't showing them.

I really wish they were, then i wouldnt need a passport to go over there :(

You know in the constitution, there was the provision for New Zealand to become part of the federation but not WA. Imagine needing a passport to get to WA but not NZ.

Me, I prefer a good old mexican variety, not that i should know anything about that ;)

Cat piss is what that tastes like, utter cat piss some of the other mexican beers aren't too bad but Corona, cat piss.

I prefer the irish kind.... mmmmm guiness :P also belgian beer too... mmmm hoegaarden white :P mmm leffy... mmmm kwak :P /me pets belgian beer cafe :P and I will say the same about hoegaarden.

Now a good cider on the other hand, pear preferably though I only get that in Europe or even a good pilsner. Strongbow is dodgy cheap cider. Sydney Cider which is now really hard to get and actually from Adelaide is niiiiice.

Mmmm, a meal in every glass... I had a couple Friday arvo over at Union Jacks in Charlotte St. Helps that I walk right out the front door at work and cross the road to Union Jacks.:D:D

I'm rather fond of Stella also. Lately I've been drinking a bit of Carlton Black.

Nice shots there folks. I had a rather dismal weekend shooting wise, out to my parents place for morning tea today and I took a walk around the dam looking for any type of insects. None! To dry and cold for much to be out and about. Roll on spring I say.

Finding a place that does Boddingtons in Brisbane properly is a problem as with a lot of the creamy ales because the CO2/NO2 mix has to be done properly also temperature is a problem as they need to be served chilled not ice cold like lagers. once kilkenny, guinness or boddingtons gets chilled past a certain point some of the flavour starts to disapear. The Bearded Dragon at the bottom of Mt Tamborine does a very nice Boddingtons and is also very picturesque for the DSLR to enjoy itself also. You'll find me there most sundays for the Boddies and the cane toad races. Oh and cider if you can find it any where try either BULMERS or SCRUMPY JACK but be careful very drinkable and very potent.

Also in regards to beer is it only me thats peeved that they have reduced the sizes on the cans of kilkenny they used to be 440ml not they are a paltry 330ml squeezing more blood from a smaller stone. Helen what lens are you using for those gig photos?

Nifty 50, though I used the sigma 30mm a little bit but find that it is just a wee bit too wide. now I Mat and I swapped my 30mm + hair curler for a 35mm I think it would be just right....

Now thats pretty good. Although i wouldnt mind if they had a bit more product knowledge over there. I went in one day with my 400d when i still had it and was just looking at stuff in the window. I overheard a salesman trying to explain things about it to a young family. They wanted to have a play with it but the battery in the demo one was dead. So i offered to show them mine. Turns out i knew more about it than the guy that worked there and through the questions the people asked me, i made a sale for them.

Should have asked for a commision on the sale

You couldnt be sued. The bookstore is close enough to a public area i think. If you take a photo of someone doing anything in a public space, you have nothing to worry about.

That really wouldn't suprise me, as when I knew the boys they were both up for a good joke/laugh etc.

Paul - A lot of it really comes down to the weather(wind), a wee bit of photoshop and a black card. It all depends on how much wind you have. If it is really still the smoke just clouds the fireworks but if it is really windy they fireworks go a bit awol. You need just the right amount of wind to clear the sky but that is it. Photoshop does wonders for increasing the local contrast to darken the smoke, which makes it less visable and the black card does wonders for covering the lens between mortors and thus reducing the smoke as much as possible.

I was talking to my brother last night about cameras and lenses as we normally do and the fact that when we go full frame, man there are all these extra lenses you will need to get. An 85mm to replace the 50mm for concerts etc etc. Why don't I just get my pay going directly to Canon? could make it easier.

I know, triple post, but this had to be posted here. I found an article about photographers rights in QLD and i think that most of it applys here as well.

http://4020.net/words/photorights.php

Now, for those who went to the last meet and remember the run in i had with that drunk guy this next bit might be amusing. Taken from the "Assaulting Photographers" section...

Although property owners may use "reasonable force" to evict people, they can never threaten violence ("assault"), detain you at length ("false imprisonment (http://www.newsreview.com/issues/reno/2005-04-21/news.asp)"), push you around and seize your camera or film ("battery"), or even force you to delete digital files ("coercion (http://www.nppa.org/news_and_events/news/2006/08/ny.html)"). Rent-a-cops, supermarket clerks, shopping centre managers and even customers at a Haldon Street Cafe in Lakemba (http://4020.net/unposed/blad.php#lakemba) should take careful note.

I knew id read about the old pop the battery cover trick somewhere else before

I had a thought... a couple of my tutors are either currently practicing or recently retired solicitors. I could (if I remember :p) try asking for a bit of free legal advice when my subject tutorials start next week. Either that or I could try deciphering the Qld Govt Legislation website for us all?

That would be pretty good if you could. Just so we knew pretty much exactly where we stand.

haha, i tried doing that in legal studies last year and found it near impossible to do

Most legislation isn't too bad if you break it down. But whatever you do, don't venture into taxation law. You'll give yourself a hernia just trying to lift the paperwork

And speaking of legislation I'm reminded of one of my favourite sections of the Criminal Code Act. Is anyone else here a JP? Read on for your 'duty' in case you ever come across an unlawful assembly :):

s64 Rioters remaining after proclamation ordering them to disperse

(1) Whenever any persons, to the number of 12 or more, are riotously assembled together,
it is the duty of some 1 of the following persons, that is to say, the sheriff or under-sheriff
or a justice of the peace, or, if the assembly is in a municipality, the mayor, to go amongst
them, or as near as he or she can safely come to them, and to command or cause to be
commanded with a loud voice that silence be kept while the proclamation next hereinafter
mentioned is made, and then openly and with a loud voice to make proclamation, or
cause proclamation to be made, in these words or to the like effect—Our Sovereign Lady the Queen charges and commands
all persons here assembled immediately to disperse
themselves and peaceably to depart to their habitations
or to their lawful business, or they will be guilty of a
crime, and will be liable to be imprisoned for life. God
Save the Queen! Is it just me or is this extremely funny? It makes me laugh every time I read it.

I remember my teacher showed us that in grade 11 and the whole class couldnt stop laughing.

I didn't come across it until law school but ever since then I've had it committed to memory and it sits in the back of my mind just waiting for the opportunity to use it :D

Oh and I like your location, Sam. But given one of the recent topics of discussion I would've thought this line would be more appropriate: Where beer does flow and men chunder ;)
