Was planning on going to the Police March on Sunday but I'm off on an airside tour of Brisbane Airport with bunch of Plane/Photography "nerds" Sunday morning.
Greg the idea of wandering out to Oxley Common tomorrow morning was high on the list until I was informed that I'm required as crew on the boat tomorrow
However I have booked in for the Fort Lytton shoot on the 25th so hopefully will get to meet some of you folks.

We can't do that here because the airport is run by the military. They even have signs on the fences prohibiting photography :(

Sam: I'm going to try to get there Sunday but I won't be sure till that morning. I can't get it off and they don't want me starting earlier than normal. If I can I'm going to sneak away and go back in after the march to finish what I'm supposed to do in the morning.

get there early greg, as i don't think there is too much once the sun comes up properly. I had a looksee there once during the day, didn't like it much. Went to the interclub audio visual comp, and this guy put in an av on oxley common, and his shots were from early in the morning. Lovely shots, he did a beautiful av. What time do you intend to be there? I might be able to come.

I want to be there very early to get the early light. So we're talking 6am(ish), sunrise is offically 6:23am tomorrow so I guess 6 will give me a little time to set up a tripod.

speedtest uses IP ranges and determines where you are by the allocation pool. If iinet changes that allocation pool, and doesn't update things, then it'll still think you're in adelaide based on that ip.

Hopefully now wesfarmers have bought them out they'll adopt some of the bunnings culture.

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
My experiences with the head office HR department would indicate that only a full re-training/replacement policy beginning at that level would begin to produce results. They need to embrace action, not platitudes, in my obviously skewed opinion.
It's sad, really. We have one that is open 24x7 and it is literally 200 metres from our house - and we drive 9km to a Woolies because the cost of the travel is compensated for by the totally different experience.

Mmmm, I hope they adopt the culture, but I dunno.... it would be a lot of work, and I agree about the replacement.
At the lismore store they replaced all the bunnings bred managers with supermarket ones and it just went downhill. Long term empolyees were leaving left right and centre, just wasn;t agood place to be anymore.

It was a great day out. Met up with some people from flickr and also met a fellow canon shooter from Griffith. He was using a mk2n and some very nice glass. Told him about this place so we will see if he signs up.

I know this is unlikely but I'll ask anyway.
Is anyone interested in coming along to the Ekka on Thursday/Friday through the day? It's the first two days I've had off and someone offered me a free pass so I thought it would be a decent opportunity to exercise the old shutter finger.
If someone is interested I'll see if I can swing another pass but if I can't I'm happy to split the entry cost.

Thursday I can't. Friday depends on what money I have left after purchasing concert tickets on Thursday. Hopefully that will go smoothly, so count me in for now. Oh, I'm certain Murphy's Law will come into effect when I try to order those tickets... it happened last time. :(

I want to go. But I would only be able to go Friday and I am working Friday night and frankly you have to be there at night for the photos. I am currently thinking of going in Sunday.
Sunday?? Not much happening Sunday, I don't think :)
If you're heading to Kings again tomorrow I may tag along. But don't change any plans on my account.
Thursday I can't. Friday depends on what money I have left after purchasing concert tickets on Thursday. Hopefully that will go smoothly, so count me in for now. Oh, I'm certain Murphy's Law will come into effect when I try to order those tickets... it happened last time. :(
Cool! However...
I'm now tossing up between Friday/Saturday. Thursday's out and my mum and sister (mind you, she changes her mind like the wind) have said they wouldn't mind going but work through the week (like most people ).
So ...
What about Saturday? Can/does anyone want to do Saturday?

Thanks Helen, but you'll never anticipate ALL the questions I have...:D
The EXIF data shows 5" at f:16. Am I right in guessing that's the exposure for the Sideshow alley shot? The other two are the fireworks themselves?
Did you just mask out the stuff you didn't want to keep in the other two shots using your (secret:D) "screen mode" masking?
There...that's some of the questions.
OH! Forgot to say that your photo is outstanding...but not as good as the one you brought along at the actual shoot....that one is a real winner.

Ok here goes.
These are by no means stellar fireworks photos but this is basically what I do.
These are the three images we will be using.
http://www.helenthura.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/step1_9767.jpg http://www.helenthura.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/step1_9768.jpg
http://www.helenthura.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/step1_9766.jpg
Next up we lay them all together.
http://www.helenthura.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/step-2.jpg
As you can see I have put inverted layer masks on the top 2 layers which I will only be drawing fireworks and sideshow rides from. A quick way to put an inverted layer mask is to hold down ALT whilst you press the layer mask button on the layers palette. I have changed the layer modes to lighten. Lighten is the best mode, though sometimes it can be worth playing with the screen layer mode.
Then pick up your eraser and select a layer mask and start erasing.
http://www.helenthura.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/step-3.jpg
Once you have done all the layers. You will end up with something like this.
http://www.helenthura.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/step4_9766.jpg
That is a very basic tute and a starting point. The photo that I posted yesterday from last year had a couple of hours work in it and I think about 6 or 7 images. This was a couple of mins probably 2 max.
