Of course she can, her name is Helen after all.

I think I told Rob, I was after 700 odd but that was before I thought about the remotes etc so say 730ish? Though I am prepared to negotiate esp if say you decided to swap me the 50mm 1.4 as part of that :)

hahaha... hrmm... probably a little bit more than i wanted to spend actually (after you add everything up :( ).

now I'll have to think about it :( 70-200 for me? or 350D for Helen? :|

I broke my beautiful IBM Model M Clicky Keyboard, but now I have a new one (well a new-old-stock one) and I'm loving it again. MMmmmmm....buckling spring keyboard goodness:D:D Clicky here (http://www.clickykeyboards.com/)to buy one and you'll never look back (they are a bit noisy though).
But they won't go with my decor. I know ... too superficial :)

I find it a bit rich that a company that is currently leading in its sector sales-wise can afford to open new stores to make even more profits find it fit to reduce department budgets and as a result stop giving hours/shifts to its employees. Of the ten or eleven employees in my department, I know at least three (incl. myself) are casuals. They are always going to be the ones that lose because they don't have guaranteed hours.

I know one of the problems, which thankfully has not happened at my store is that many supermarkets/large stores simply employ too many staff and as a consequence can only give casuals 1 shift a week. Particularly in departments such as checkouts, deli or fresh produce.

While trying to photograph the Luna Eclipse, I have discovered three things:
1. The moon is not that easy to photograph correctly
2. Possums can actually PROJECT their poos quite a distance
3. With the 100-400 and 1.6x TC on, I can see inside my neighbour's dunny :-(

Interesting view using the 100-400 and the 2x with the 5D. Focusing it is hell - so touchy.

That is so true. At the moment, if I max my ISO and have aperture open at the widest, I can't get a good pic. (I'm in manual mode, not doing something that overblows the moon). When I try and make my shutter speed longer, the moon just moves and blurs!

Anyone watch Sunrise this morning? They showed some photos punters had sent in. One was a series similar to Feng's, but had the Moon coming out of the shadow as well. Then I looked closer at it, and the photog had just mirrored the shots coming in to shadows and put them on the right side of the red moon LOL.

See the one with the bat? I wonder if it was a blatent photoshop or not, im calling it was because the bat was very sharp and was flying, which means he would have needed a shutter upwards of 800-1000, and since the moon was so well lit i highly doubt it was real.

That's still just one TD. One TD doesn't make sense :D

yeah I am scratching my head. I guess that the T is for thanks but the D??????

Love those shots Nick, you really should share more often/get out with that camera more often.

All these moon shots. they are pretty damm cool.

Congrats Anthony/Greg on the 40D :) :) :)

Thanks Helen.
I should get out more with the camera. Motivation is what I lack.
I would like to get more into shooting different sports. So if any of you folks play something that you wouldn't mind me showing up to and photographing, let me know.

Speaking of getting out Helen, Paul said you might have some good spots in mind for Riverfire.

Those of you going, raise your hands ... and any ideas you have.
I believe Paul and Kelsey were keen. And Sam was deciding whether to trade his camera for his girlfriend on the night ;)

The girlfriend is grounded for being home 5 minutes late the other day (buses running late and crazy parents), so she isnt allowed to go anywhere except school for who knows how long :(

I might be able to meet up somewhere...

Shhhh don't tell everybody. Here's a totally unprocessed jpg. I'm not going to do the post elsewhere so all of POTN see .... Nigel would not be happy with me as it would fast kill the bandwidth. We did that when I got my 30D... lesson learned.

70-200 mm at 130.00 mm 1/30 s at F 3.50 with ISO 3,200
AV Priority Exposure Mode with Manual White Balance & One Shot Focusing, using Multi-Segment Metering, Flash did not fire

Do you want me to host it on my flickr as a private photo and give you the direct link? Test out yahoo's bandwidth, given they say that its unlimited ;)

I'm impressed with the 3200 myself. ACR spits like you said it would. Haven't loaded a new version of DPP yet.

Thanks for the offer of flickr but I've got a account also (KelricV), don't do much with it though.

That my dear, would be the oh so gorgeous increased dynamic range of the 5d, holy moly I love it more than I love my women in docs (http://www.womenindocs.com/) CD collection. You know how with the 350d you typically have a blown out sky unless you underexpose. The 5D just goes yeah I can cope with this, ching ching look at this photo, no blown out skies. I'm telling you this thing is worth my right kidney, my liver and my appendix, possibly even worth my tonsils as well.

Numerous people have asked about Riverfire and where to go...

Last year I set up on the top of the cliffs at Kangaroo Point (TAFE end). You can look str8 down to southbank and up to the city reach of the river.

http://www.pbase.com/trumplesoz/image/77043786/original.jpg

For other pics taken from this spot (mostly) last year check out this link (http://www.pbase.com/trumplesoz/bne_night&page=all).

Just realised that there ain't too many fireworks shots there (read none) - wonder where the hell I put them. John needs to go searching me thinks.....

Anyways, if you want to catch up on Saturday night there will be at least 4 of us consuming the odd bottle of wine and trays of finger food whilst waiting for action.

RE:Riverfire.

Outside Customs house is always a good spot and you don't need to get there till 4ish or so in the arvo. That is where I have gone the last two years.
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/94/232211368_ba7a466f0a.jpg

This year I am heading to Cpt Burke Parke beneath the Story bridge with some family and friends, we will be there from 10ish onwards, some sangria, some fine NZ bubbly and who knows what food yet. More than welcome to come along but early is best for Cpt Burke Park. I went on a reccy last night to check out the locations and for the 12mm on the 5d, that is the place to go :)
