There is this "caravan" parked outside this house up the road from me which belongs to a hangis caterer - "Hangis to you" or something like that they're called. What is hangis, anyway?
Hangi is a meal cooked in an Umu (earth oven) :D

I know... vaguely. :|
Well... I know the following:
"Ach der lieber Augustine" (gee... I wonder where I get that from... ;))
and... "krystallnacht" (I think that is how you spell it... :|)
Did you ever do the Goethe German Poem reading thing at UQ as part of school. Still today I think about phrases of those poems.

Oh, when I was in Germany, after being surrounded by... Germans for two weeks, we got back on the plane, and I was sitting behind an Aussie couple. MY GOSH. I was like "Do we REALLY sound like that?" It was amazing that I could notice the accent. I was like, PHWOAR.
Oh, and I'd forgotten how to speak english properlly, so it was like.... "Wir horen gleich das?" Mein Gott.
Exactly the same thing happened to us when we were over in New York after spending two weeks in Canada - we came acros someone from.. where was it.. outback Australia, anyway, with a very thick Aussie accent... you can spot it across a crowded room. Very shocking after not hearing it for weeks :p

I can sing pretty much all the Rammstein songs... I only understand about a third to half without looking them up, though, I haven't done german for years... mind you, Rammstein has actually helped keep some of my language skills up which otherwise may have decayed! Yay for educational music ;)

My dad is like that. He sometimes gives me a running commentary of the setup of the powerlines and such when we go driving every now and again. Though considering that they (my dad and Greg) both work for Energex it is hardly surprising. :p It's a good thing that they know their stuff though. :)

G'morning guys. Ahhh, only woke up about 5 minutes ago ;)
Lovely shot of a 11kV and LV Pole Sam. Points of note... it is a Air Break Switch Pole seen by the steel operating rod on the side of the pole. It also has those pretty tiger tails fitted to the LV services to stop that nasty electricity jumping out and grabbing people.:p;)
The whody what that stops tigers grabbing people?:lol:

Hey everyone,
Can't remeber if I've posted in the Brissie section before, but I seen an invite from helen over in teh Aussie section to come over here and bring a pic, well I'm at work but I promise a pic as soon as I get home.
The brissie thread really is friendly and talkative. I think I held back from posting here because I wasn't from Brisbane.

What's LV? And what's an Air Break Switch? You've got me curious now.
My dad is like that. He sometimes gives me a running commentary of the setup of the powerlines and such when we go driving every now and again. Though considering that they (my dad and Greg) both work for Energex it is hardly surprising. :p It's a good thing that they know their stuff though. :)
All the better to edumucate you.
I think we all need to start taking photos of power poles, Energex stuff and getting Greg to detail it for us.
LV Pole - my guess low voltage pole?
Also still ok for a 'Roo point night shoot next mon or tues night. If it is tues night, you will all need to bring a lens to give to me a birthday present ;)
Good guess - you're right LV = Low voltage = <1000V, HV = High Voltage=>1000V
An Air break switch is a mechanical switch bolted to the top of a pole that is used to switch power on and off. They have operating handles located at ground level. Can be very dangerious to operate if not done correctly... picture lots of sparks and molten copper falling on you from above. We have remote controled versions of these about also.
Love to come Tues but I'm mr mom for the next few weeks from Tues as the wife is going to London on a business trip.

Didn't you say something about 11kV though. How does that fit in?
11kV =11000V or the lowest "distribution" high voltage in SE QLD
next is 33kV, then 110kV then 132kV then 275KV, Energex don't do above 132kV and Powerlink don't do below 110kV.

oh, ooops:o, just means that both voltages are present on the pole. The accees procedures for working on these are redically different so we tend to specify whats on there so if people are scoping work they get a good idea of what would be involved.

anybody interested ?
To repeat myself,
We have 2 official models in the family who always like their portfolio expanded. So i get a few shoots in now and then.
If i were to set up a long ( 4-5hrs) multi person and group shoot
a) who would be interested?
b) what would you be willing to pay? like 20, 40, 10, 60 each?and...
c) what setting or place would you be interested in? Urban, studio with background, natural like a field or somthign?
