If i were to go both nights, shooting from the riverfront at south bank would be alright. As the sun is setting like in this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/xenedis/459594598/in/set-72157600025672008/) photo.
Also, an update on the fireworks thing at the fete at Jindalee Primary. The fireworks are set for 7:00-7:15pm and entry to the fete is free. My mum reckons that they probably wont be all that spectacular as the school has spent a heck of a lot of money elsewhere this year.

sounds like a good idea to me - that is what I was thinking too. Then you can wander over the victoria bridge to get traffic shots.
Yeah but they are still fireworks!!!

BTW, the mod on there called "Rockit" shoots motorsport for a living, so his points are usually worth listening to.

Funny thing is that he never mentioned what lens he had on the XT. Probably comparing the AF speed of some crappy lens with some wizzy one :D hahaha
I mean... I noticed the diff from the 17-40 vs the 17-85 in terms of focus speed. *sigh*... note he mentioned AF Speed not AF Accuracy.

If you have the time, watch this (http://www.pentaxian.com/#pentaxians/inspirationalist/mark_dimalanta) little video. I can safely say that I am jealous of that guy (both lifestyle and gear). Only thing is, its all ad material for them, but they stopped production on that 600mm lens (along with they other pro full frame lenses) ages ago.
he's bloody good as well.

It's with great pleasure that I introduce the 1.3 club's new logo/mascot.
I give you ... 1.3Bee!!!

Nick, that's fantastic work there on that logo, but the sign needs changing. Take out the word "compromise".
I was wavering a bit there....<thinks: Hmmmm...get 1d MkIII now or wait for the 5D MkII.> I don't want to compromise...I'll wait...sorry. But I might change my mind if you come up with a different slogan:D;)

I just had to read upwards of 300 posts. I feel so sorry for Tina, I'd hate to think of what she'll be coming home to. :p
Hmmm.....Sars? I didn't think it made it to australia, you better get a vaccination!
lol :D I get it. :)
Rob you need to go digital.
Woolies need to give Rob shifts or some other company needs to employ me.
One of those and a EF film camera
The Canon EOS 300V is still available from the friendly folk at Photo Continental.
I miss the cherry coke. That stuff was good
Try Chocolate Boulevard in the Myer Centre, or if you want it cold, try the confectionary place above Anzac Square that is accessible from the Central Station tunnel under Ann St.
AAAAHAHHAHAHA nice nice :D i would LOVE one of those XTis :P
I had thought about importing one myself from Adorama but then I wouldn't be able to take advantage of PC's if things go southbound then, eh? :)
we should do dinner or at least a coffee/tea/milo/horlicks/ovaltine/hot-beverage/something afterward... otherwise I'll starve... well something of that description...
I agree.
Well somebody's got to do it. The 1.3bies (I'm workin' on a logo!) is still only one member strong. Although we do have the support of young Master Sam.
It's with great pleasure that I introduce the 1.3 club's new logo/mascot.
I give you ... 1.3Bee!!!
I was in Ted's in the city looking at the 1DmkIIN and I recall tossing up the possibility of getting a Mk III after I get an entry level Canon DSLR, so there's still hope yet. ;)Though at this rate I'll be six feet under before then..

Will have to try and find the place in the Myer centre. It seemed kind of obvious that the place above ANZAC square would have it too, although i dont go near there any more with not catching the train home from town these days.

Bus from outside the casino. It goes straight to Jindalee (stopping at milton, coronation drive, toowong, indropilly etc etc). The bus costs more than the train did too :(

I should point out, that I hope you don't actually think I drew the bee (found him on iStock). I have limited artistic skills in that area. I don't want to be taking credit for someone else's work. I just changed his hands to give me 1 and 3 and added the other bits.

1.3Bee represents the crop, not necessarily a particular camera. When he speaks of a perfect compromise he's referring to the medium between full frame and APS-C sensors.
For instance a 1.6 crop has a 60% increase in apparent focal length over full frame. Full frame sensors provide an extra 37.5% FOV over the 1.6ers.
There's a compromise whichever way you go. Our beloved 1.3Bee offers the option of splitting the difference. Hence, the perfect compromise.

ahhh thanks for clearing that up......
I think for me.... if I was comparing the 5D to the 30D (as being the closest in terms of siblings)... i'd say that the 5D just allows for more width... You can get the 30D's length by cropping to 8MP (1.6x).. so getting same reach and 'quality' of the 30D... but having the flexibility of having more width if required.
That's why I chose the 5D over the 30D.
the reasons for going 1.3 would be completely different, and wouldn't be related to reach or width, cos I'd have 'apparently' no benefit either way... it's not as long as a 1.6, and not as wide as a FF... BUT it gives me a 1D body, integrated grip etc etc..
but you all knew that... and I know we're just playing 1.0oOooer/1.3bee/1.6ie game ;)

Alexson, I love the shot with the waterfall!! I think I told you that already though. oh well I still like it
I know I did - don't know if they are decent though - the waterfall is a bitch to photograph. would be nice if they did it during the magic hour in terms of exposure. Gazza on Flickr got a decent one (http://www.flickr.com/photos/garry61/1298093574/). I never realised that it was horizontal as well.
Thanks for your kind comment Helen and Nick.
I love your the angle of your picture and the colors are amazing ...
cool shot alexson...
are we going cityscaping next week?
Thanks, Feng for your kind comment and the invite. The plans sound great. I would try to make it for both. The times seem to suit me well unless something urgent comes up. If not making it both nights, I am particularly keen on the Kangaroo Point wander on Tuesday as I don't think I have taken any pictures from there before. So, maybe Monday and a definite Tuesday if I can find the location hehehehe. If I take the citycat, which is the closest terminal to stop at for the Kangaroo point ?

The closest would be Southbank. Though, you could catch a ferry from Riverside/Eagle St Pier which will get you closer to where we are meeting. :)

The best thing I can suggest is the Subway at Southbank or on the cliffs just off Main St at the general store. Subway has a Veggie Delight sub which doesn't have meat on it.

Paul, Greg, Kelsey (or any other BCG member) - are you entering the River City Print Comp? Mine are framed and ready to go. :)
Puts flame suit on....;)
I'm still not graded at BCG so that means I can't enter comps.

I know - I go out for a night at the theatre and damm if there isn't 5 more pages.
I only had two this morning to read. Dont want to think what its going to be like when i get home.
Public transport...wooooooo :D
its good, i save crapload of money, its very reliable and on time (seriously, it is) and im never late for anything and dont have to worry about traffic.
Public transport ftw!
Stop rubbing it in. The trains were awesome and somewhat cheaper. You never really appreciate how good they are though, until you are forced to catch a bus everywhere :(

lol true, it is quite exy if you dont have concession, but if the alternative is driving to the city each day its a no brainer really.

I have a sh*tyExpress bus stop about 300m from my door and I only catch the train. The only time I uses the bus is coming home from the footy -- it's free then.
I train it every day to and from work - I have a 12mth pass that is done as a payroll deduction so no hassle with buying tickets.

I'm still not graded at BCG so that means I can't enter comps.
I think there has been a rule change recently, or so I've been told. Ungraded members can now enter, only thing is they are stuck in 'B' grade until they are properly graded. :p I don't know if that little ruling applies to the River City comp though.
Stop rubbing it in. The trains were awesome and somewhat cheaper. You never really appreciate how good they are though, until you are forced to catch a bus everywhere :(
I agree, though I find the bus is okay during normal times, but during peak hour or other periods like that the whole thing just falls to pieces. mX always has readers writing in complaining about train services that have been cancelled / haven't been run or are packed like a sardine can, so they're not perfect either.
Certainly is. 1965 Datsun 1600 Fairlady - my baby.

Heh found a nest on my verandah with a single chick which has just hatched. Got a ladder out and waited for mum to arrive but when she did my pesky puppy disrupted the fun. Ill have to try again later.
