did you see the APEC news on TV? a female photog got shoved by the coppers and a beautiful red ringed piece of tupperware hit the ground :(
Horrific! I hope they had one of those "the following may disturb/upset some viewers" disclaimers.

I know! I feel like Calvin Klein!
It was actually a Christmas present a couple of years ago. They gave me a pack of seven but for the life me I couldn't work out who would wear that many pairs of underpants. So I kept one just in case and used the others for Secret Santa at work :D
Cute shot, Nigel. Love the look on his face.

Did you hear the guys near me also.... I was watching it via fox so there is a very slight delay. The guys near me are watching free to air so there is no delay. What all this means is I hear them cheer and ten seconds later see what they are on about.

gah, why does lens buying have to be so hard??? The low light music photography that I do dictates that I need fast glass and of course they are just so creamy as well and of course after having the Sigma 30mm 1.4 and borrowing Feng's 50mm 1.4, the idea of going back to f1.8 is like pulling teeth.
The 30mm and the 50mm on the 350d were just about perfect in length coverage. On the 5d the 50mm replaces the 30mm and then I am tossing up between the 85mm or the 135mm to replace the 50mm. The 135mm is f/2 and one of the finest lenses Canon has ever made I am thinking mmm only f/2 and whilst I would sell a toe for the 85mm 1.2 that is just a bit out of reach at the moment so that takes me to the 85mm 1.8 which is also a mighty fine lens but dam why couldn't Canon do what they do with the 50mm have the basic 85mm 1.8 which is cheap as chips, then a 85mm 1.4 usm which is the mid price and then the 85mm 1.2L.
gah don't even get me started on the wide angle options.
I think I will get the 85mm 1.8 decisions decisions decisions

Been studying fluids, did you know that to reduce the drag over a non aerodynamically shaped object, it is better to increase the surface turbulence in order to reduce the overall pressure drag on the object?
Well you know now, who knows that that will come in handy for you all.
and on that note the light outside is quite amazing, pics time.
Nick C.
9th of September 2007 (Sun), 01:56
What is surface turbulence and how do I reduce it? I need to be able to run faster!
Ospi
9th of September 2007 (Sun), 02:04
friction between the "fluid" (in this case air) and yourself, since the human body is not overly aerodynamic, it would be better to have rougher clothing in order to reduce the overall pressure drag behind you as you sprint.
HOWEVER
If you can create a triangle shaped object and stick it to your back, this pressure drag will be significantly reduced and you might get away with running naked as you wish to do.

That's interesting to me 'cos I think that's the principle behind the "dimples" on a golf ball:D
I heart golf!

actually i have never thought of that Paul, thats actually quite interesting. Always good to find something what actually uses all this theory work and puts it to practical use.

When you say "crappy", do you mean:
A. Needing several changes of underwear.
B. Depressed and feeling sorry for oneself.
C. Chundering every morning, crying a lot, craving weird foods.
D. Sore throat, aching joints, pesky husband.

K from wikipedia:
Firstly, the dimples delay separation of the boundary layer from the ball. Early separation, as seen on a smooth sphere, causes significant wake turbulence, the principal cause of drag. The separation delay caused by the dimples therefore reduces this wake turbulence, and hence the drag.
Indeed you are right, im actually quite chuffed about that. just finished work on boundary layers as well so it all makes perfect sense now!!

Well I'm glad someone understands it. All I know is that it adds about 50% more length to a hit.
But isn't that what the baby bonus is for ;)
Yes, that and you also get something to take photos off:D

Just got back from a big shopping and that ... Went to the Northey Street Windsor, it was pretty cool. Got a few shots of the butterflies finally !!! Also, a nice surprise was that they held a multicultural festival over there as well ... so some candids ...
Just a quick catch up for now... time for dinner ...
