When this first came out I landed on Australian drifting site, to read a review of the movie.
Let's just say they were very unimpressed by the technical details, including the obvious, that drifting isn't in fact the fastest way to get around.
One of the longest running threads at the time was, wether the engine they put in to the old car at the end (charger?) was a s17 or s15 and how stupid that engine choice was.
(please note the "s17" and "s15" are just made up by me , although I'm pretty sure the words 's17', 'nissan silvia', and 'fully sick' go together.
I don't know what sort of engine that black car at the end was running (presumably a big block V8 of some description) but if it was good enough to do a wheelstand like that I think I'd be happy ;)
as far as the silvias go... SR20DET, baby! Mmm-mmm.

i keep fish and spot aquariums in the backgrounds of movies etc.
i'll be sitting there and (seemingly randomly) go "their not even marine fish in that reef tank".
My husband does the same. He worked in an aquarium for a few years and kept/keeps nearly every kind of fish you can imagine. So when something comes on he's like "you can't put that fish in with that one" and stuff like that. And he uses their latin names all the time.... at least my latin (and fish knowledge has improved )

Heh.. speaking of Latin... I was chatting to someone the other day who had eosinophilic gasteroenteritis.. deciphering that it comes down to "dawn lover" gastroenteritis - that amused the medical geek, the camera geek (EOS, goddess of dawn) and the latin geek all at once. Sad sad sad. :p

as far as I understood it you just move the zoom ring on the lens (sorry I don't know the right name for it) until it points to the 'infinity' marker then away you go?

If it's got a distance meter just move the focus marker until it gets to the marked point just to the left of the infinity symbol (sideways 8.). Then you're focused on infinity.

Home from my first wedding, it was a VERY casual wedding. Another wedding is not exactly something I want to do again soon. Very hectic and in terrible lighting conditions.Took a bundle of shots and had Paul as a second shooter. Thanks again Paul.
It was a park wedding and the wedding party were in partial shade, oh and the background for a nice angle on the bride during the ceremony had a trailer, a bike and the caterers van in it. I got a reasonable share of good shots but stuffed a few up also:(, luckily nothing that can't be fixed with a little extra work on my part. Could have done with a second flash on the second body as fill flash in partial shade was the order of the day.

Cant remember which way to turn the focus ring for infinity on that one. Try in the daylight tomorrow, focusing on something close and then far away. Infinity would be all the way in one direction and then back a little bit

Hi All,
Here's some shots from the wedding yesterday. Another wedding is not exactly something I want to do again soon. Very hectic and in terrible lighting conditions. Nowhere to do group shots that didn't result in some of the group with dappled light from the sun though he tree on someone's face. We could position the B&G out of these areas but not the whole party.
The Bride is one of my wife's school fiends and the irony in this is that my wife is currently in London on a 3 week business trip. The Bride and Groom wanted a very casual wedding and they achieved their aim. It was very family friendly affair with the kids riding bikes and running about the park though out the reception. As a result of all this they weren't all that keen on formal shots.
These are all still rough edits. Something like 1200 shots to go through, although that number is steadily decreasing as I delete stuff I don't think will be of any use. The next one I have to worry about is in Feb next year for my sister-in-law. In that one the B &G have totally different skin tones. Think very fair and very dark. Why me???

I think you've done extremely well. I took some photos for my sister at her wedding (not as "the photographer" though) early last year in similar conditons .. or perhaps even worse (in a park, very bright/sunny January day, early afternoon wedding) ... and it was an absolute nightmare. Even with a 580EX it was hard to get enough fill flash to compete with the background/bright spots at times.
My sister loved the photos anyway ... or maybe she was just saying that ;)
Nice work! :)

Thanks Mat, it sounds much the same. I was wanting a diffuser about the size of a house and this had to be held up to the west.;) Everybody looked at me weird when I said I wanted it cloudy. For some of the shots at the Brides house I could use a diffuse or sometimes two. When it came to to the time to get the brides maids all the strong male assistants had left (not Paul - he had started at the park to get the Groom and his mates) so I had to look for another spot. I ended up using the front veranda and wanted to DoF blur out the houses etc in the background. I ended up doing this too successfully by blowing out skys.

Could have done with one actually, or :p1/2 doz people to hold diffusers reflectors etc.
I'm going to have to go through all of the shots soon and tag the ones for extra work ie slideshow, album and all that. I don't have to produce a album as such but I want to have a selection of images that would suit.
My main concern is I'm not very good at directing people into poses. I can recognise a candid moment in an instant and get these but I'm not as confident with the formal stuff.

In terms of RAW adjustment tools I think it's pretty similar (if not the same) as ACR 4.x. I bought LR at the same time as I did CS3 so I haven't actually opened anything using the latest ACR or Bridge so I can't say for certain.
It does offer a far better interface and other features like cataloguing, virtual copies and that sort of thing.

Just had a look at it in PS CS3. The All Channels histogram shows the blue channel reaches maximum at +.36 EV. The Red and Green channel are still within normal limits at that point.
Exposure seems about 1/3 stop under going by the histogram...and it looks just a teeny bit under on my monitor. I can't believe you took that in 2005. Seems like only last week.

Believe it or not, i know exactly where everything is. And what you see is about a month after a clean up. I just create a new folder when the screen completely fills up and i dump all the icons in that :p

On a serious note - I have just got a new monitor and am suffering a bit for mis-alignment between monitor and printer.

okay i have a question for you guys...
what batteries are you using in your flashes? since i got my 580ex II i've been running the energizer e2 lithiums which seem to do pretty well in terms of recycling and all, but they don't last long till i have to fork out for a new bunch...
sooo, what are you guys using? rechargeables or some breed of super-disposable?
Nick C.

I use those e2 lithiums too (they're the blue ones, right?). I've had the current set in there for a while now and I've used the flash a decent amount. I do try and steer clear of 1/2 - full power flashes and usually sit on at least ISO 400 to help reduce the amount of work the flash has to do.

Rechargeables. Rechargeables rechargeables rechargeables. I use Energizer 2500mah rechargeables and they've lasted me 12 months (and are still going strong) with many full discharges... for $20 or so for four that's pretty darn good. Non-rechargeables just gets way too expensive.

I use PowerEX batteries 2700mAH ones with a Maha battery conditioner as the charger.
edit: have some sony 2700mAh and they're crapola! :|
Recycle well, and last great :) Rated one of the best in terms of rechargables (life, holding of charge etc)... many reviews online.

I use Sanyo rechargables ... mostly 2100mAh (which I have a stack of), but some 2500's, which don't seem to last much longer -shrug-.
I'm also using a Maha charger. I think the charger is at least as important as the type of battery.
Keen to try some Sanyo Eneloops sometime, just for convenience of not having to top them up if they've been sitting around for a while.

I agree about the charger Mat.
I saw those Eneloops at Battery world... only 2100mAh though... not sure how they'll go.... BUT... I was thinking of getting them for toys and torches etc... cos at least at 1 year, it's supposed to hold it's charge.
I love the Maha Conditioner's break in function etc... :D

I'd love to see that.. a tiny little treadmill attached to the side of the flash with a rodent pedalling away madly in it.. might make too much noise for weddings, though, unless you invest heavily in WD-40 :p

so a Maha (or at least a decent quality) charger and some decent batteries (2500mAh or higher?) sounds to be the go.. where do you recommend buying from?
and yes Nick the silver/blue energizers are the ones i am referring to.. but they've only stood up to maybe 3 weeks max of flash useage (pretty heavy useage though, so in that sense im happy, just dont want to have to fork out for a 4pack every 3-4 weeks)

Most of the batteries I use are 2100mAh, so I think they should be OK. I've used 2100's, 2500's and some 2700's a couple of times (all Sanyo) in my 580EX and really haven't noticed much difference in terms of life or recycle time ... which doesn't really make sense, I know. They've all lasted several shoots (I don't tend to flash a whole lot), so maybe I just haven't been able to differentiate because of that ... not sure! :)

I use Varta 2000mAh batteries everywhere. I have 4 sets of 4 for my flashes, 1 set for the 580, one for the MR-14 and the others are spares that live in the bag. Needed the spare yesterday, just after the formal (if they could be called that) shots the flash kept switching off. It's done this once before when the batteries were low. Replaced them and I was good to go again. Boy were the ones I took out hot from use. These are 15min recharge which is a good thing.

15min recharge which is a good thing.
problem with 15min rechargers is they shorten the overall life of the battery.... even if they're rated to that, it's not healthy to do too often if you can help it. a nice slow condition is great.

Yeah, that wouldn't be too economical if you're replacing them every month. I don't use flash all that much so I'm happy just to keep two spare sets on hand at any one time. I probably go through a set every 2-3 months so it only costs me about $100/year.
I just like not having to worry about charging them.
