lol... well RAM was cheap at the time, and even though CS3 only can max out at 4G, that only leaves 0G for the OS. Running Vista Ultimate x64 so it tends to chew as much RAM as you give it. So yeah... :) why not I guess... it was the same arguement when everyone was getting 512MB for XP instead of 256... I went ahead and got 2G straight away... now 2G is pretty standard really with 1G being pretty much minimum. so now for Vista x64, I figured, I'd jump the gun a tad earlier, and just get 8G first up instead of what people recommend (4G :))

*shrug*... business pays for it I guess... :)

Posted this in another thread this morning, and was after your opinions:

had a bit of a run in with the father in law this weekend so felt a bit confused with things last night... wasn't even a bad run in and I'm probably just thinking too much...

situation was... we went off to some gardens to have a look (hadn't been there before) and then I went off on my lonesome and took photos of flowers as I usually do... and some of my friends were wandering near me... so me being the budding n00b, I thought I'd take some portrait type shots of them.

on arrival back to the car, I had a dirty look from the father in law with comments along the lines of "you didn't take any photos of us and you took so many of 'such and such' and 'so and so'"...

:(:(:o

what do you guys do in situations like this? I mean... i know I probably should've... but didn't really think, and friends were just near me... it's not like I wandered around with them specifically to take pics of them :( i was more interested in the flowers to be honest :| It's been making me think since last night :| spoke to the wife about it (she's overseas) and she was like 'doh'.

Hey everyone,

I know I should keep this in the Sell section, but I thought it would be easier to post it here as your all from Aus.

I'm selling my mint 30D, 50mm 1.8 and 1GB CF for $1200 and a brand new never used Canon 17-85 IS for $599.00. So if anyone is interested shoot me a PM or email. :)

Sorry for the thread hijack. :s

by the way feng, if you want to easily clean up your server or even your desktop, get 'crap cleaner' (as i still affectionately refer to it), now renamed 'ccleaner'.. it's great, i run it on my 'clients' (i fix computers for friends and family) computers and it always seems to bring up heaps of 'crap' that can be deleted with no side effects.

Ahhh been there, been in this strife, family jealousy is a curse. The suggestion made to go and take some shots of them "special ones" and give them to them is good but it needs to be balanced with not being "used" down the track too much.

You know my biggest bitch with cameras, family et al - it's that I am on the working side of the camera constantly and never actually get on the lens side - geez it carps me big time ;-)

Im fairly pleased with our upload speed (its unlimited too), but i wouldnt mind the next plan up. Would be good just to get the 100gb monthly limit given we seem to be blowing the 50gb one every month at the moment

For what we are paying, its not too bad. After 50gb, it gets throttled back to 256k up and down unlimited. Uploads are unlimited normally too.

I think on paper its a 3mb down 1mb up connection

Sam, on paper, you'd be getting 24/1 with TPG, but because of your distance, it drops back due to transmission loss blah blah.

On paper, mine's 24/1 too, but I get like 4/1 cos of my distance. Capping downstream is 64K :( but upstream stays unlimited which is great :) I usually blow the quota every month :) but server's only just been revived... :)

that's bucket loads for your normal user... I have lots of customers uploading data to me on a daily basis and have stuff coming out (which obviously doesn't count). Obviously have my own stuff too.

usually only break peak quota.

Popped over to Dragon Image this arvo and picked up one of their folding shooting tables and a set of those fluro lights they have on the front of their website.
These globes are extremely bright!! Much more so than I was expecting. I know they're 70w but you just don't expect a fluro light to blind you.
Not sure how effective they're going to be.

Looking forward to having a play after tomorrow.

Could they have had two cameras? Because I swear when they were out doing the falcon test I saw a D2X badge and a ED 18-200 lens.

EDIT: That's all I saw. They were introducing the falconer when I turned it to the right channel.

Yeah... it's series like those that I end up buying the DVD of to watch them. I think I've sat down and watched three TV shows this year, one of which was Mythbusters... I've watched quite a few DVDs, though.

OK, thanks Pleiades - I might just stick with two at a time to save accusations of bombarding the thread! I'm learning quickly that content of pic ranks equally with settings used.

Meaty0 - it is pitiful, you're right. I figured getting the kit would at least kick me off, then I could adapt/improve/upgrade when I figure out what path I will take - Macro? Landscapes? who knows? At this stage I'm doing my best to fill up the 8gb card in one hit! And learning how the 400D works. Prior to this I had a Canon 20 (a massive 2.1 MP!!) which was good in its' day, and prior to that an Olympus IS1000, again not a bad camera for the early nineties.

I do know that I'm loving the fifty - I can see a huge difference between the results from that and those of the standard (kit) zooms.

I noticed that I've chopped the graffiti too - will need to be more careful.
