lol I'm controlled by the money I'm owed :)
Hmmm, see, I think I should make the most of the time I have left before I move in with my girlfriend later this year and get whatever lenses I might want now :)

I remember seeing a gif animation in the glamour and nude section of a bloke doing something rather inapropriate with that lens....still funny all the same.
was that Weka (tony) from GKPE?

is anthony the guy with too much money for his own good? i've seen him on pretty much all forums buying stuff. all forums being potn, fm, brisbanephotography, etc. etc.

mmmm true.. but it doesn't mean he can't take good shots with the gear which is always less than 6months old ;)
Very true. Actually, a really good example would be a guy by the name of "Rice High" off the pentax forum. He went through several models of the newish pentax cameras and voiced his opinions about how crap they were because they wouldnt take good photos.
He recently bought a 5D and has been complaining about that too because he cant get a good image out of it.

Not sure, I remember him posting a nude of himself a while back but I don't think he's the one I'm thinking of, I think there may have been a girl in there as well doing her thing to the lens

Your natural photographic ability makes up for it. Peoples like me with less-than-most talent have to compensate by buying lots of gear:D

Get the sigma, but make sure you get a sharp copy. You can save quite a bit of money too.
The Camera House in the city on adelaide st has the best price anywhere on the sigma. Beating the import places too. Just drop in and ask them what their best deal is on it.

My name comes from my grandmothers maiden name which was McKinnon and my mum just dropped off the "Mc".
I did some research and my actual name means "born free" and it's an old scottish name, but it's a blokes name, so I may as well be names bruce or something like that. All other Kinnon's I've seen have been men :(

lol, I'm glad I didn;t have to do any of it. Although with the surname of Smollett (my maiden name) it was pretty easy for my grandad to trace because all the smollett's with 2 t's are related and he ended up finding a distant cousin in canada that traced her side of things well back.
One of my relos was found dead in a tree days later after a huge flood, reminded me of one of those lateral thinking puzzles....

Get the sigma, but make sure you get a sharp copy. You can save quite a bit of money too.
The Camera House in the city on adelaide st has the best price anywhere on the sigma. Beating the import places too. Just drop in and ask them what their best deal is on it.
Is that Rainer's Camera House, Spam? (Or Ted's, further down?). I got my Nifty from Rainer's and they were v keen on price. Seemed like they'd be happy to do more deals when I upgraded lenses - ie that 100mm Macro!

mmmmm you are looking at the wrong lens choices. Really there is no question Sigma 12-24mm. That way when you go full frame you have UUWA instead of just UWA on the 1.6x you make me laugh! :p
i'm sure by the time i finally (if at all) go full frame, i can buy another lens then :)
nice try, though... ever considered a career in sales? ;)

OK - thought so SPAM. They were certainly keen on price for the 50/1.8
Talking of price, two questions:
Is around $450-ish good for a used EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens
and
Is it a worthwhile lens to replace my stock kit lens, or should I not bother - ie is there a better option for not much more?

Id probably keep saving for a 70-200 f4L. It may not have IS, but it is an L and its a verrrry nice lens to use. You can pick one up new from DD Photographics for $879 so used would be between $650 and maybe $750

The IS in the f4 IS is probably the best to date. Its certainly the newest.
What it comes down to really, is what are you going to be shooting. If you want to freeze the action (in low light as well) and get a shallower depth of field, get the 2.8L. If you dont want to stop action as much and dont want a heavier lens to cart around, go for the f4 IS
wakko
17th of September 2007 (Mon), 22:44
the f/4 IS is a great lens...
if you can't justify the 2.8IS then the f/4 IS is great! had a play, lightweight, sharp as a tack, and great IS.

I only choose the colour space when I export them from Lightroom for printing or web use ... store them all as RAW, so technically no colour space :D

I reckon the F/4 would do it - I guess it'd be a bit more flexible, ie usable in more situations than the 2.8. At this early stage though I probably couldn't justify my stock standards! All in good time.
