I went around AU zoo with a 70-200 f/2.8 IS L and a 30D w/ grip for a while day and it was fine :) i liked it :D
then again, my walkabout is a 24-70 on a 5D w/ grip now :D
yeah, i'm one of those people who likes a weighty camera.. it feels like a toy otherwise.

hahah that's what sold me :D /me pokes Kinnon.
and that 24mm is actually wide on it :p mmmm /me pets 5D :D
Hey! Don't try and blame me here, I was asked to bring it along, so I did.....you're the one who had to look in the view finder.
I was thinking for my next lens purchase of getting the 17-40 or something similar, but I'm very happy with the width of the 24 on the 5D. So not too sure what I'll get next....

hmmm... Belmondo says he's going to start locking threads around the 10,000 post mark. Knowing us, that won't be long. ;)
Why?

Why?
Long threads put extra strain on the server. It happens all the time on a few other forums i go on. The mods get errors when trying to keep the thread in order.
Easier to just lock the old one and start a new one

ahhh....
Anyone know a good (hopefully free) program for doing HDRs? I've tried photomatix and qtpfsgui but they don't really do a good job.
Or even is there a photoshop action out there for it? Or a tut or something?
I've tried googling photoshop and hdr and nothing really comes up :(

Well that was the most number of pages I've ever had to read to catch up.
I should've done what Paul did and just ask for an update when I check in.
But then I would've missed the photos from Bruce and Ken. Nice shots, guys! :D

Often, I think the best results are achieved by doing it manually with multiple layers and masks, etc.

 huh? How? I have very very limited ps skills. Playing with the hue/saturation and contrast etc are about as far as i go

cheers for that, but isn't that using the 'merge hdr' feature in CS2? I only have elements at the moment (well kinda, someone gave me CS3, but it's not the most legit version, and I can't bring myself to load it and use it, my conscience wont let me do it)

Photoshop does have a native HDR conversion under File>Automate>Merge to HDR. I've never found this particularly good so you're not missing anything.
I have used Photomatix for some time and once you get the hang of it, it is quite good. I still find myself pasting in different skies though. Just remember, HDR's don't do all that well when there is movement in the scene you're shooting. (Although moving water comes out looking pretty good.)

heheh 17-40 is a nice affordable UWA with very good IQ etc... you can have a play with mine next time if you want ;) i love it :) wouldn't mind the 16-35, but for the cost, and apparent edge softness, it's not really worth my time getting.

Why don't we just quit this thread and start a new one?

Beats having a new one pop up with (2) at the end of its name.
Has the benefit of:
1. A 'local' opening it
2. the chance to pop a link to this one back in it.
You can always PM Belmondo to have this one closed, too, after you have 'moved'

Something like Brisbane POTN: Random Discussion Thread or something equally corny like Random Ramblings, Random Stuff etc or you could just call it General Ramblings Thread Part 2 ;) lmao or (2) :p

how about General Rambling Thread? that way, for the short period of time they are both at the top of the page it will be nice and confusing to determine which is which (of course until you look at the post count!) :p

why thank you! An old workmate who know's I'm into photography gave it to me a while back. I didn't ask for it or anything and it's been sitting on the lamp table for about 2 months now. I just can't bring myself to use it. I'd love CS3 but I'd rather just pay for it and use it guilt free.

noooo, don't say that. I'll use it then want it.
You looked through my 5d then what happened! I can't afford a new lens at the moment. I don't want to torture myself :(
