My dad has had some problems with his 10D - when he went to download a recent shoot, he found some of the files are corrupt and unreadable (he describes them as being jumbled) and have an unusual file extension (can't remember what, but was for a Canon compact....) He has tried upgrading firmware but just gets error messages. What is his next port of call, and has anyone had similar experiences?

On a related note - how does the EOS 400D stack up against the 10D, and against more expensive cameras in the 10D area of the market?

never had this problem, but with any file extension he can change it if it's on the computer, try making it a jpg

Thanks, worth trying, though the file was RAW and it was the downloading software gave it the extension....

Most Canon compacts have .JPG extensions; that shouldn't strike anyone as "odd" unless he usually shoots RAW only.

How was he downloading? Via cardreader or direct from the camera? Can he go back and see the pictures on the card in the camera, just not downloaded? What version of Zoom Browser was he using, or was he using something else?

Corrupt memory card perhaps? Just a thought.

Corrupt memory card perhaps? Just a thought.

That wouldn't affect the extension, but could give the "jumbled" look. I'd try a new CF card.
