Hi...I have been lurking and really enjoy this forum. I just got the digital rebel and love it. I am looking for a little help on choosing the correct lens. I will be taking baseball pics and various other outside stuff. I need to keep it on the cheap since the wife blew a gasket when I got the camera....anyway. Here are the two I was looking at:

Sigma - 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO Super Lens for Canon AF
http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langI d=-1&productId=7465729&cmCat=SEARCH

and
Canon - EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Zoom Lens
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat13505&type=page&productId=105180 6943002

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I was in the same boat.. After much much research here I settled on the Canon 100-300 4.5- 5.6 USM $280 at B&H photo. See example of pic taken with it at 300mm. A lot of lens for the $$.. Has Full time manual focus also.

I have the 100-300 and it is not a bad lens but I haven't used it since I got my 100-400. My son seems to be enjoying it just fine for his EOS film camera.

the wife blew a gasket when I got the camera
At least there is one commonality amongst alot of people

I am thinking about ordering the Canon 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 EF IS USM - B&H has it for $414.95 which seems fair. I went to a local dealer here and played with it first, but they wanted over $500 for it there so I figured I'd go with B&H.

Haven't tried either of the others but I am finding that you can usually trust the advice you get on this forum.

Dan -

The lens at best buy doesn't have the Image Stabilization technology in it - at least not that I could tell. But if someone knows where I can get this lense at a better price - please let me know.
