Any future Mark II owners thinking about swapping out the standard focusing screen for any of the others? If so, which one and why?
Pekka, Cyber, RMF....let's hear it...

I don't have the sheet in front of me,. so I don't know it's name,. but I was actually thinking about trying the one that has a grid laid out on it...
I thought the parallel lines might help with keeping an even horizon etc...
I'd also like to know which one of these screens would be most likely to help with manual focusing? (ie: like the old manual focus split screens..)
I wonder about the people who want the "rifle-esque" cross hairs?

To be honest I haven't even looked at them. You have a link where we can have a looksee? That hasn't been real high on my hot-list, but I would like to see what's available and how much they are.

Don't laugh,. I knew a gentleman who had spent some time hunting.. and had "lost his taste for it"
...but he still loved "the hunt".. stalking,. the time in the woods.. etc
He ended mounting an old Nikon on a rifle stock.. and that's how he hunted from then on.
I allways fancied that he had some sort of cross hair rigged so they would show on the pictures,. but I think I just made that up in my head.. never saw any of the photos,. he had just told me the story. At the time we were talking rifles,. not cameras,. so I did not think to ask.

What a relief! When I'm doing self-examination like IanD's duck (see: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26332 ), I'll still be able to take photographs using my Angle Finder C. It fits my 10D and the hopefully-soon-to-be-delivered Mk II as well.
Life just doesn't get any better than this!

CDS,
If the truth be known, years ago I used to own a very successful guiding service. Our customers came from all over North America and we had a few clients from Europe. I don't know if it was the fact that I was getting tired of humping goose decoys through muddy cornfields or old age, but one spring I decided that I was putting the Remingtons away and having the dogs retrieve rubber ducks instead of the feathered type. I still venture out into the cornfields every fall but to observe and try to capture on media what I once tried to capture for the table. I still get chills up and down my spine when I hear geese calling and still have duck and goose calls in my truck. I have been known to hop out of the truck upon spotting a flock of Canadas and start to "talk" to them. To me, there is nothing as beautiful and captavating as a flock of geese circling a field and calling to those on the ground. Calling back to them through a goose call and having them respond is a thrill. I still support Ducks Unlimited as much as I can and attend suppers and calling competitions.
I have had the good fortune to have seen some truly incredable sights in the world of waterfowl and hope that I can now capture some of those sights in photos and share them with others.
Honk! Keer Honk! Hey, someone is calling me, gotta run....

Is there any firmware upgrade so that I can swap the focus screen in my D60? Relax, I'm not saying a firmware upgrade for putting "film" inside the DSLR.

Another thought: Is it possible to hack a EOS 1v so that it can use the CMOS sensor and CF card? I don't mind if it doesn't have the LCD to review the pictures.

I have a friend who shoots a lot of slide film for landscapes. He is not digital, so getting the horizon right is a must. He uses the grid screen. I think it would be nice, but not necessarily needed in a digital world. I may try it and see what I think...

Sounds more like a "hardware" upgrade. :)

Yeah, I need a hardware upgrade. I hope that my next DSLR will be able to swap the focus screen (though it is not a must). I'm gonna wait till the price becomes more affordable.

I used to shoot an Olympus OM-2 with interchangable screens. I opted for the grid for compositional reasons; Rule of 3rds, Bakers Saddle and all that. I didn't find the grid to be overly helpful in maintaining a level horizon. A small line-level is much more useful for that where landscapes are concerned.
I wish the grid screen was an available option for my 10D, but I am quite happy with the viewscreen as it is.

I'll try them all :)
Especially Ec-L (Cross-Split Image), looks useful.
If you look for gridded screens, remember that they do not align as in full frame camera.

I had not thought of that Pekka....Hmmmmm :?:
