Was the lighting all pre-existing or did you use a flash?

Nice photo!

nicely composed and I like the way the background adds atmoshere to the shot without competing with the subject. Well done

I used a flash, dragging the shutter method. No tripod used. The camera took care of the backgrou, and the flash took care of the couple.

very intimate photo. Reminds me of the movie scenes where the world around is still going but when together it seems it has stopped.

What does "dragging the shutter" mean?

how do you expose the background AND the couple so well when you're using flash?

I think the technique is to get the couple to stand as still as possible, then set a slow shutter speed to capture the background light, then the flash fires at the end just before the shutter closes exposing the couple. That means both the background and foreground are both exposed nicely as the flash would never illuminate the background on its own. Correct me if i'm wrong!

I have been back to look at this shot many times. I really like it. I think you've got a nice balance of ambient and fill. If anything I would have upped the shutter speed to reduce the ambient just a bit. Nice work.

1/25 may have been too long as your lights in the background are numerous and very over exposed. 1/40 or 1/50 may have done better.
