Do any of you know where I can get an old photograph that has scratches and maybe a slight tear in it? I have a project coming up that I will need an old photograph for to restore using photoshop. I have to scan it with one of their nice scanners and then make it look good again.

Any ideas will greatly be appreciated. My family is not the photographing type, until me, so I am kinda running thin. I havent asked any of my friends yet but I just thought this place may give me some ideas.

Thanks.

just about any antique store/mall in your area will have many old photos that you could purchase for this.

Remember to show us the before and after!

When do you have to have it? I can mail you one as long as you guarantee to return it. I have a bunch of old photos dating from the 1920's that my grandfather took while he was an Army photographer. A lot of them are pretty beat up (my grandmother didn't take very good care of them). I'm planning to restore them myself soon. Also, how beat up does it need to be?

Stick a shot in your jeans pocket and pop it in the tumble dryer when it's a bit damp. That might make it pretty distressed...

I can email you some from the 1940's -- 1950's in a high density scan if this will work :-)

Why don't you just take a shot of a family member or friend, turn it into a sepia and add some noise in PS, print it on matte paper, tear it, wrinkle it, and start from there. Just a thought.

I appreciate your offer Mark. Let me see if Jim has the resolution I need for this project and I will let you know. I dont need it until Wednesday, so depending where you live and whatnot... I was going to look around town this weekend too I am sure I can find something I just hadnt thought about the antique stores and stuff.

Haha I dont think I will do that. I dont wanna spend forever on it lol.

I appreciate this offer as well. If you can scan it at 300 dpi and send it as a tif, just as long as its not a jpeg obviously. Um as far as the size of the actual photo goes, I dont really care haha. If need be once you scan it, I will give you the info to upload to my server so we wont have to worry about a 60mb+ file being emailed since that would take forever.

Please pm me or email me at SoaringUSAEagle@bresnan.net

That could work too but I dont want to have to go through that much work lol.

Thanks everyone for the support!!!

I am at work now...I'll send you a sample tonight when I get home. I'm not sure but I think I can only scan to 200 DPI...I'll check. My scanner is one of the Canon USB model that takes power from the USB port...I use it to capture and save documnets mostly.

I have scanned and corrected many photos for the family, however...so we can give it a try :)

I just emailed this shot of my 19 year old bride in a 400 DPI Tiff file. See if this one works :)

Were we ever that young ;)

I am still interested. I definitely like a military photo that I received.

Jim unfortunately, that would take way too long lol. Thanks tho. I am not looking for a totally mangled photo... Something in between haha.

You mean, then show the class the rapaired in PS *cough* version?

Sounds like a plan to me

Okay I actually go ahold of my photograph. I decided to go with one a friend at work had of her mom when she was younger, probably in the 60s or 70s. I will post up the before and after later this week along with the new and improved kleenex box images along with the clock photos I took. I processed and printed today, and they look wonderful!

So on Thursday I will be back :)

Thanks for the support everyone it is greatly appreciated!
