In addition to this 580ex & Sunpac 383 setup that I plan to use both indoors and out at events on stands with & without umbrella's, i picked up a AB800 & 24x36 softbox. For entry level portraiture work, I plan to eventually shoot with the AB as a key/main and use the 580ex & SP383 as a fill and BG.

To start I wanted to practice with a one light setup, so I set this up using my AB800 & SB. Was limited on space indoors where I shot this, but was pleased with the results for my 1st attempt. With no fill, I kept the Ab at 45 degrees and tried to keep the CL up high in the eyes to keep the nose shadow away from the cheek & face. Does this look to be close for my 1st attempt?

C&C welcome. :)

Those are awesome, I have a few of those 383's, I have been waiting for ever for my wireless trigger, it's prolly lost at sea since it's coming from Japan. :)

Dante, I hear ya, but as I mentioned, this was just with one Alien Bee and a Softbox. After a bit more practice, i plan to add additional lighting into the mix.

Thanks for your post, I appreciate your feedback :)

Thank you. I have been pleased with the 383 so far. I havent really used it much but for what i have planned, it should work sweet. Both the 580 & 383 work sweet off camera outdoors with the PW's. Im excited to add them to my gear....

Glad you like the one light shots. Thanks again man!......
