I recently put my first Item on Ebay my 18-55mm USM lens.

It's been 36 hours since I got the first Congratulations e-mail that someone has bought my lens that was on the second day the lens was listed.

Some time later I received the second e-mail to confirm how much the postage will be to The United States as It was only marked for Australia.

But ever since the first e-mail stating that they bought it, it hasn't been listed so nobody else could purchase it.

I have e-mailed the buyer a few times but I am yet to get a reply if they are interested or anything from PAYPAL that a payment has been made.

How long do you guys give the person from the first Congratulations e-mail before you list the item again?

i'll say give it about a week to see if the first buyer replies. its probably a reasonable wait time as he/she might have suddenly gone away urgently and not been able to leave you an email.

though most of the time they probably just think its not worth the cost after shipping and decide not to reply

3 days. If they can make time to bid to win they can make time to pay too, no matter how busy they claim their life is.

I simply re-listed it as i smelt a scam :( They must of thought a first timer would of thought to send it as i got e-mails saying it was sold. There are stupid people like that and they just take there chances.

Their original Ebay address was in Las Vagas, they said they were in currently in in England and wanted me to ship it to Nigeria by express courier and would pay anything  They asked for my full name and Address so they could send a money order

You need to file a non-paying bidder dispute - basically because the winner is in a country to which you do not ship - otherwise ebay will CHARGE you insertion AND final value fees - and that can be hefty especially as you have not sold the item! It was a mistake to relist straight away though - you have to do the non-paying bidder thing first. It might save you money to cancel the new auction, and do the dispute thing with the original auction - you have to do it on the dispute console in the 'My ebay ' section, and tick the box about the buyer being in a country you do not ship to...this means an immediate credit of final value fees providing you relist at that point. If you don't do this ebay will charge you a percentage of the final bid value of your lens. As the scammers are not planning to pay anyway they often put in silly bids for major $ and if you don't do things right you could be seriously out of pocket. You also need to report the scammer, and use the feedback system to neg his ass, even at the risk of a retaliatory neg. But you won't get one - the scammer will be re-registered under a new name and scamming someone else before you've finished relisting.
There are good help boards on the ebay site, which work in a similar way to this forum. you have just dived in as a seller and made some fairly unfortunate mistakes. fortunately you still have your lens but most likley because you have relisted you have most likely to accept that you will have to pay the costs of the first auction.

i would suggest going into your seller preferences to block bidders from countries you don't ship to, bidders with negative feedback and bidders with non-paying bidder strikes against them. I would also advise strongly that you research this ebay stuff more carefully. you have got off fairly lightly, it could have been a lot worse - no lens, no cash AND and ebay bill....
