Night shots of Denver

Got a Canon A630 for Christmas and have taken some night shot os Denver. Would like some comments on how to maybe get a clearer shot. The last pic of the state capitol was shot with the same settings but I zoomed in.

You've got some interesting subjects, welcome to the forum!

The first one looks way too saturated, not sure if you did something in your photo editor software or not. Zoom in on some of the pillars, the colors are excellent. Fill the frame with your subject, make it simple for your viewers' eyes to find your intended subject in the photo!

The second one just looks out of focus, this is hard to do at night. Zoom in and focus manually on your subject and then zoom out and shoot - the lens will hold your focus. Try to get a fully centered view of your subject. When your film plane (in this case, digital sensor plane) is perfectly parallel with your subject you get straight lines and a great photo. Try standing directly in front of the building in the second shot.

Just in case you are - don't be afraid to try different ISO settings. Learn your new camera by taking some sample shots at different ISO's when you get to a scene and compare them when you get home. You might like a higher ISO better than 100. I love shooting in ISO 200 personally.

Thanks for the reply John. The first picture I think i failed to focus it..just shot it. The second I zoomed it and tried to focus it but it wouldn't focus...just seemed to be blurry. Someone told me once that getting a zoomed it shot at tnight was tough. WIll continue to practice. Thanks again!

night shots are great fun and you have some spectatular subjects there RBL! If you don't live too far away, get back there and experiment with your settings and the compositions.
