Congrats I think. Hope you have deep pockets because these guys will have you buying "L" quality glass a few weeks after you get the camera.

A few weeks? I'm not sure that going easy on him is the right thing to do.
:)

Welcome Jmurman. Have fun.

Welcome.... :)

Do you already know where you want to buy your 300D? Watch out for the too-good-to-be-true offers. Check if the vendor is reliable by looking it up at http://www.resellerratings.com . Some shops, especially in the Brooklyn area (NY, USA) only want to rip you off..... :(

I think that I'll order it from Best Buy. Accessories I'll find someone thats reliable online.

I am leary of the Ebay thing, maybe I just dont know these people, you know.

Do you all know of any reputable online vendors?

Don't worry about it. Pretty soon you'll only have to worry about family and Kraft Dinner. But that's only if your family loves you very, very much.

Welcome. The ride is sometimes a little bumpy, but the members of this forum can help you get where you want to go - and sometimes a member will tell you where to go.

www.bhphotovideo.com is a standard for all products that they sell. I don't know anyone who can say B&H is disreputable. I was speaking with someone at work this morning who does a lot of video production, and he deals with B&H on a regular basis. They are not always the best price, but you can depend on them to give you a fair shake. :D

There are others, but B&H is one of the best. :D

Have Fun

Welcome aboard! I am a newbie too and have been playing with my 300D for a few weeks now. There is much to learn and even more to buy, but I'd rather sink my money into photography than anything else at this point. ;-)

Let me help you out there....

Drop the cigars, guns, and part of the family [wife]...

Keep the camera and kids!

Be careful where you purchase your 300D from.... Go with B&H or Adorama.... TRUST ME ON THIS!

Welcome aboard... Fasten your seatbelts and please keep your hands in the car at all times, dont get up until the ride has come to a complete stop...

THANK YOU!

Yeah,

In order to join this club, you MUST spend at least $8000 USD the first 6 months.

Let me tell you what you need:

Open credit on your credit card and a lot of it. Or, cash or second mortgage on your home.
L - Lenses a must, you can't post photos unless you have one.
Carbon tripod and monopod, you can't take photos without them.
You also need a VERY UNDERSTANDING spouse, without that, you can't do anything.

We will then discuss what else you need, that is enough for now. Perhaps, you can put off buying that bigger house, even think about getting a smaller place. Forget about the new car, walking is better. The children's college fund, they can work and and pay their own way.

Don't worry, we will get you adjusted to your new way of life real fast. DEAD BROKE!!!

If you want to save some money right away, just buy the MK ll, it will save you the money of upgrading later.

Oh, I forgot, welcome to the forum and to the WORLD OF CANON.

NiL,

Actually, it is cheaper to join if you spend faster - $6,873 in 4 months by my reckoning. (If you're English, the round-trip plane ticket to New York doesn't count towards this number.)

Sell the car, but buy a truck - you'll need it to carry the massive L lenses. Or you can get a donkey - preferably one with 4 legs. We already have a 3-legged donkey here.

Speaking of that, make sure you know how to put your lenses on - if you put them on backwards you end up taking a lot of pictures of butts. Or so it seems.

Before you get rid of the wife, have her go food shopping for you. Otherwise you end up eating Kraft Dinner. A lot.

I seriously agree with buying the Mk II as soon as possible. What the hell - you can't take it with you.

Bah! For another measly $500 you can get yourself a 10D and call yourself
a pro. DRebels are merely hobbyists. Wish I had.

So after all this time someone finally figured out my problem. You would think that with the price of "L" glass that they could have at least put an arrow on them with the words "This end towards subject"
