Hey all, I am just curious what you might use to protect your camera when shooting in the rain? Is there a product that protects your camera that you can purchase, or do you make your own version out of plastic or something. I live in Seattle so as you can imagine, shooting anytime other than June - Sept most likely will mean rain. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what they are know as in the states but here in the UK I never go out without several black plastic bin liners and some adhesive tape in my kit.
If the heavens open I can get my gear and myself covered up fast and if necessary carry on shooting.

oh we just call them trash bags but "bin liner" sounds more elegant. of course, considering how most of my shots have been coming out, "trash bag" would be appropriate.
mark, that storm jacket looks interesting. i may just pick one up.

Usually can find a plastic shopping bag nearby, in the trunk, etc.
Make a hole in the bottom and you're good to go! (Ghetto style. :))

I always keep a couple of white kitchen trash bags in my camera bag... just in case.

That's just a good idea no matter whether it's raining or not. I also keep a couple of large ziplocks in mine too.

There are also those inexpensive 'emergency poncho' rain gear that you can find in variety stores or sporting goods stores, that fold up very compactly. These are always good to carry around, and don't look quite so 'ghetto' as garbage bags, and have the advantage of a hood to cover your head as well as offering a relatively convenient way to keep the camera dry yet easy to bring out from under the poncho for a quick shot.

AC, Jeff, and Mark all have the right answer. If you want to go "deluxe" You can use translucent bags. I also sometimes use a rubber band to snug down at the end of lens. This depends on what lens you are using as some front elements rotate.
And, 'bin liners' does sound elegant, those UK types sure know how to string words together.

Always have a plastic garbage bag and a plastic throw-away poncho in my bag. If I'm expecting lousy weather the Kata rain covers come along as well.

Those look like a useful thing to have in the camera bag! I assume you use the largest size jacket to accommodate your biggest lens?
