Question – I’m looking to upgrade my PC computer for photo editing work, and wonder if anyone has an opinion as to PC vs Mac? I’ve used various PC’s for years and am comfortable with most of the quirks.

Outside of having to buy a new version of PhotoShop CS2, are there any problems you’ve encountered going from PC to Mac? Is the Mac really better for working with digital photos?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Both will do everything you need. If you are already familiar with PCs, then I would suggest sticking with PCs. Why go through a new learning curve.

You do know, of course, that the Mac v. PC debate is a religious one, not a technological one? By that I mean it is more a matter of faith than technology.

Check out the small list of "similar threads" at the bottom of this very thread.

You don't have to buy a new version. You can get a crossgrade from Adobe pretty inexpensively, I'm told.

Thanks for the thoughts and additional threads everyone. It appears most stay with what they’re comfortable/familiar with till frustrations push one over the (expensive) edge toward a Mac.

No one here has any opinion at all I'm sure. ;)
But this question is akin to a political or religious debate. There is no right or wrong answer. I have a Mac and a PC at work and my home machine is a PC and I find I can go between the two with little effort. Both are capable machines and both will do any job nearly identically with one exception is gaming. Most third party softeare has it's own interface and they are nearly always identical between platforms. Each machine has it's own little nuances and quirks and once you learn the magic mojo are easy to work around. I say stick to what your comfortable with unless you have a real strong hankering to change. Technically there is no reason to choose one over the other.

Here's some fun with MAC's. Never trust a wedding pro at a trade show

i switched from a PC to a mac 2 years ago. i love the mac and it did great at everything i wanted. however, 3 days ago i switched back to a pc. now, before people jump on me, i will say that both pc and mac are great and each one has its own advantages. for me, the decision to switch to a pc was based on frustration with the mac hardware. i didn't like the fact that if i wanted to upgrade hardware, i had to go out and buy a new computer. if i had the money, i would get a mac pro but for me $2500 for a bare computer is a bit too much. i just built my own pc for $1700 and let me tell you, it ROCKS!!! i guess the ideal option would be to have both but it will be some time before i can justify having them both.

the bottom line is to get whichever one that meets your needs and that you are comfortable with. today, the argument "macs are better for graphics" is no longer true but mac still offer some great advantages over a pc and vice versa.

Well, if you like building its going to be the way of a PC.

But aside from that, either will do the job if you make sure you have the right specs.

Just like with the Canon vs Nikon debate. We just aren't fun here. No bickering or anything. Just so civil!
