Hey everyone...been lurking on this site for quite awhile and decided I'd better get a little more involved and finally make a post! :o

I recently got the "nifty-fifty" and thought I'd post a few pics taken with it since it seems most people like this lens quite a bit (myself included!)

I'm still learning, which is why I love this hobby...there's always so much to learn.

Enjoy!

This first I chose to not focus on his eyes to get more of a "daydreamy" sort of look, and it also shows the nice DoF this lens can do.

The second one I just thought was kind of cool. This is shot through the reflection on a weird license plate purse my sister got for christmas. She's opening gifts in the pic.

Minimal PP on these as I'm still learning that as well.

I like your shots. I wish I had my XTi and Nifty Fifty when I had cats. One looked just like yours. I would've loved to have shots like that of her.

nice work esp on the pic of your cat... looks great...

looking forward to getting myself a 50 also, be it either the 1.8 or the slightly bigger wallet denting 1.4
Cheers for sharing and welcome in...

Great photo of the cat. I shoot lots of dogs and usually focus on the eyes...or just above them. I may have to try your idea! I was considering the 1.4 also but picked up a 1.8 yesterday. Why the 1.8? I don't have much experience with primes or lenses this fast. I figured that this would be a cheap way to learn and if I deciede to move to the 1.4 I can always sell this one for a good price relative to what I paid for it!

Thanks for the kind remarks and the warm welcomes!

I do a lot of low light pictures and I don't like flash too much, at least not until I can get a 580ex, so the 50 comes in real handy with that.

Here are a few more. Most of these are with the 18-55mm kit lens. I actually don't mind this lens too much though most of the pics turn out a little soft.

This is one from when my GF and I went on a road trip to Fargo to visit some of her family. Got a little bored in the car and was snapping a bunch of pics.

These little buggers are getting quite annoying. This one joined us for Thanksgiving.

I could be wrong about the nicknames but I think the 1.4 is the nifty fifty and the 1.8 is called the thrifty fifty.
