This springtail landed on its back and to my surprise, stayed there long enough for me to get a shot at him:

You can crearly seen the the spring in the tail!
And one more image when he finally got himself straight again:

I would be grateful if anyone could ID this springtail .

Any suggestions of a further ID on this one Brian? I have looked through the site of Frans Janssens but I cannot find it.

Judging by the comment from Frans on one of my recent pics, this should be a member of the family Entomobryidae as one abdominal segment is much longer than the other ones but my knowledge of these is extremely limited.

poor little bugger nearly knocked himself out, great capture. I think it may be Orchesella villosa ?
This was with ringflash?

You may be right Racketman, looks very similar but the colouring is slightly different.
Yes, it was with ringflash.

Hiya Maarten,
Excellent shots/captures these are fascinating little creatures, it took me ages to find my first one now that's all I can find, well the globular ones.
Cheers for now

For me it is the other way round, I have only found them today, and loads of them, but I cannot find the globular ones.

Wow, superb Springtail shots, love the clarity that you've nailed and the lighting is very nice as well, especially for ring flash.

Oh my God, I've got to get out of the macro section. These bugs are making me squeemish as hell. That thing is so disturbing. It looks like a cross between a cockroach and a cocker spaniel.
