I have noticed that several people appear to be using a non Canon lens with Canon cameras and I am curious about what you give up if anything.

For example, if I read the literature correctly, the auto focus on a Canon lens will feed distance information to the 580 EX flash. Will the non Canon lens function equally with this and other features of the Canon lens?

To be honest, my skill level is no where near that of many of the people on this forum and I need all the help I can get from my equipment and my friends.

Thanks, Jim

As long as the 3rd party lens is a current EOS AF mount, it should communicate with the camera in the same manner as a Canon lens.
