Thanks,

Congrats! You have a very nice lens set-up with the 5D as well. The 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8 are oth great lens, too. Especially if you're looking to do some portrait work.
I envy your purchase! haha. Again, congrats. Now go take some pictures!

16-35 L and 100-400 L. Then you'll be in good shape for almost anything.

Not Pro by any means, just a single guy that works for the fire dept. with big hobbies..Mainly travel I've spent time in a lot of differnt places, but I've really gotten in photography ever since I returned from my time spent working in Miss and LA after Hurricane Katrina and I have found it is like crack, I always want more, I had a sony Alpha and it just wasn't enough and after speaking with a friend of mine that has the 5D I decided to make the Canon Jump and I'm glad I did!

agreed
16-35 L and 100-400 L...
and agreed.
With those lenses and the 2 you currently have, you would be set for just about anything.
I have the same lineup (except my 24-70 is a Sigma and my 70-200 is non-IS) and I find I usually have the lens capability for whatever shooting mood I am in.
I bought mine over time, though, for several reasons:
It takes me a while to learn each lens, so it is best, for me, if I take the time to learn each one individually.
You may find, as time goes on, that you prefer to be shooting at the wide end (or the long end) so that also influences your choice.
Good luck - brilliant combinations.

Wow, that's a great setup!
Just last night I bought a 16-35 used.
I took it to the beach today (cold, winter, wind chill = 15C, wind gusts up to 50mph!!!) and I "enjoyed it"...it goes really wide so it's a good lens to have to get those sweeping shots of the ocean, despite the buhe distortion it has.
Still learning how to use such a wide lens.
Have fun!!!

WOW! Did you rob a bank or hit the lottery?
Congrats on the awesome setup... can't wait to see your pics.
I was thinking earlier today about photos from Katrina and Rita (I'm a part-time EMT and went down last yr just to look around), and wondered if anyone on here had some posted...
Guess i need to do a search on here and see!

Agree with other lens recommendations. Just want to throw in 100mm Macro in addition.

You really have the spectrum covered with what you have. My suggestion is to use what you have and identify your needs by what you shoot and what could have made a certain shot easier to get or possible if you couldn't get it. One thing you might consider adding to your already "better than mine" kit is a flash gun if you do not already have one. Maybe a good tripod as well. The 5D doesn't have a built in flash(which I use occasionally for outdoor fill) so you could probably benefit from having one despite having Canon's two fastest all purpose zooms. The nice thing about the 5D is you can really use ISO 1600 and not be afraid of noise. And both the 24-70L and 70-200L at f/2.8 are still VERY sharp. ISO1600 and f/2.8 mean really great low light flashless photos... but you can't take EVERY photo without flash, right?

I'd suggest adding a fast prime next to those two zooms. 35/1.4, 50/1.4, 50/1.2 might be an idea. The 35/1.4 is really magic for indoor shooting on the 5D. Great low-light combo.

When I purchased the camera I also bought the Canon 580ex, grip along with a few other odds n' ends. I looked at getting the 35/1.4 and 50/1.2 along with the 180 macro.

Just clicked on the thread above and read about your awful misfortune... sorry to hear that.
I am hoping that by now you have ordered your replacement equipment and will be able to get back to business as usual.

You've got a great set-up. Before you run out a get any more gear, I'd learn to use what you already have. Once you've done that, you'll know where the gaps are in your equipment list and can make an intelligent and educated purchase.

you lucky duck. i am pinching pennies, and when my XTi takes a dump, i will be getting the 5D (ok, well seeing as how my XTi is 3 months old, its going to be quite some time. but thats ok, as it will take me that long to save up enough cash to blow on it...and it odds are it will be replaced 2x by then too, so i will have to get the latest adn greatist)
in a nutshell, im jealous

I just picked up a lightly-used 5D from member here Dante King myself...it's my second one, and I regretted selling the first from the minute I did it. Great camera. I thought about waiting to see what came out in March, but I have a sneaking suspicion that nothing spectacular will.
