I've always been in the habit of depressing the shutter release button halfway as I point my S2 in the direction of what I want to meter off of, and then recompose the shot. I was under the impression that depressing the button halfway locked the focus and the exposure...is this correct? The other day I was faced with a situation where I wanted to meter off of one part of the frame and focus on another. This got me thinking about what I'm actually doing when I'm depressing the button halfway.

I can't wait for spring, so I can just go out and take photos to gain experience.

Thanks for any help.

Although I can't speak firsthand with regards to the S2, it is pretty much a standard setting that a half press of the shutter locks exposure and focus. Does the S2 have a button or function for exposure lock?

Well I hate to admit it, but the answer was in the owner's manual...I just didn't know where to look before. There is a function for locking the exposure, and also a function to lock the focus.

I read the owner's manual when I first got the camera, but I think I should read the whole thing through again tomorrow. I didn't know what half of the terms meant back when I read it.

Thanks for the reply though.
