I'm a week old 300D owner and found the following sentence in dpreview
pages:

"Parameter 1" is the same as Contrast +1, Saturation +1, Sharpness +2 on the EOS 10D. The EOS 10D's 'Standard' setting is called 'Parameter 2' on the EOS 300D.

Which one to use? :?

Parameter 1 seems to be default but why? Is the result better?

Welcome.

Will you process your photos in computer, like using photoshop? If you won't, the default parameters may suit you.

However, most users will process the photos themselves as they can have more control over them. Then they will change the default parameters.

One of the great things about having a digital camera is you can try out things. Quite simply, try the different parameters. Take several pictures of scenes in each, compare the results and then select the one that best suits you. BTW, you can also sut up three parameter sets of yourself (see page 56 of the manual).

300d parameter 1 mimics better the saturation, contrast and sharpness levels of digicams as the G3. Usually digicams deliver more vibrant colors and contrasted images than DSLR cameras and as the 300D is "consumer oriented", Canon choosed to deliver a more contrasted/vibrant look to it, instead as the more natural and less contrasted, but also less "puchy" look of the pro and semipro DSLRs. Parameter 2 was also included to mimin the "default" DSLR look, better suited for postprocessing.
