Have had an ixus 400 for years to carry about instead of lugging the SLR around every day and have just upgraded to the new 900ti and was amazed at the digital macro facility on the 900ti. Have attached a couple of images that have just been resized for posting but not cropped and will attach a couple more later if anyone is intrested.

These were taken freehand about 3 inches away from the subject with window light and on various zoom settings and should still have the exif info if intrested.

So far its turned out to be a cracking little camera.

I bought one recently too for same reason......5D is a bit heftly as a daily camera come holiday camera.

However I noticed a LOT of noise when left on fully auto. And the only control you can really take is white balance and ISO........at ISO80 on super fine, the pics are just acceptable, but need the flash.

So I just felt this was too limiting and took it back for a refund the following day.

I'll just stick to the SLR for all my photography from now on.

Those are outstanding close ups. Not too many years ago, one would have had to spend many bucks for a lens that would do that well with macro work.

The only thing with the macro is that the focus can be a pain but for a camera which is fairly small i think its outstanding.
Granted that you will never get the control or quality of a decent SLR and i would love to be able to lug my 1D round all the time but there are some occasions where i just want something to keep in my pocket just incase.
Here are a couple of more pics from the 900TI and will post some tomorrow as am off for a walk by the river in the morning so will be taking a few more then.

Both have just been resized for posting but not cropped in any way the last pic is on digital macro at its maximium zoom setting and minimum focusing distance.
The coin in the first pic is an English One Pound coin.

I've got an SD500 and an SD900 and I think my SD500 actually has a bit less noise than my SD900. This shot was taken with an SD500 in macro mode using just light from a kitchen halogen.

Here's another taken without cropping. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with Canon's macro capabilities on their P&S cameras.
