Look on the bright side - maybe the price will drop a little by May.
Oh? You've paid already? Sorry !!

First one to get Mark II has already more reward than he probably deserves in a year

Sorry to hear about that delay CyberDyneSystems. If you were any closer I could let you handle mine (for about 10 seconds at a time of course) if it comes earlier :)

Sorry about the news CDS. I just called my local dealer and they are still looking for the late March early April timeframe. Was your information for your source only or is Canon putting this out?

This was my supplier,. where I was number 5 in line,. but I don't have a spiffy corporate account,. so i can't say that I am not being "bumped"...

So it may not effect all that ordered from CDW the same way..

If the date has slipped in the UK as well, then at least I will be solvent for another month :(

CDS,
It is all in the anticipation. :P

Speaking to my dealer today (London Camera Exchange), he was telling me that their total allocation (for the whole chain, UK wide) of MkII's is already sold. And that is before a price has been set. Head office estimates that they will able to take firm orders for the next allocation sometime in late September AT THE EARLIEST.

This is for the 1D MkII, what is going on ? Canon don't seem to be able to keep up with orders for 10D's either.

Nice work if you can get it

Cheers

I checked with my Canadian supplier today and he is still expecting to be able to get mine to me mid April. It's going to be a long month and a bit until then. Sigh!!

CyberDyneSystems

I'm pretty sure it can be repaired, it is under warranty and will soon be on route to New Jersey ( )

It seems to be a sticky shutter.. so I suppose this is a shutter repair?

I'll get the CMOS cleaned while it's there.. (lord I don't want a report of what they pull out of there!)

Over 18,000 images on the 10D I'm afraid,. not too shabby

GenEOS

Cyber, with that kind of usage on a 10D, you will be placing the shutter on your MKII a lt sooner too. Sounds like you are a little trigger happy! But that's not a bad thing...till your shutter gives up.

CDS. You ordered at CDW? If so, I'm most likely looking at June. OUCH!!!!!!

CDS,

Sorry to hear about the delay. You will get it and it will be wonderful. I had the same problem with my 10D in the summer. Shutter died and they replaced it. It is fine now, better than ever.

CDS: Sorry to hear about the 10D. Yikes! I'm about 18K shots too. That's pretty low for the shutter to bite the dust.

Anyway, there was no way you would have been getting an MKII this month. Canon is not even shipping until 4/1 at the earliest. CDW is not getting any until about mid to late April and they still do not have a date, so for your guy to give you a firm date (any date) is just weird.

Well, I spent a most unpleasant day in the car. This was after a particularly distressing morning (I shan't bother you with details). 600 or so miles later, I drag my weary bones into my hotel room, hook up the laptop, wrestle with a new logon procedure for the high-speed internet acces since the last time I was here (it now has to be prepaid by credit card instead of billing it to the room), realize I've brought the wrong laptop and I'm not set up for internet access with my new ISP on this one, spend the better part of a half hour on hold with Earthlink because I can't remember my new password, finally make it into the forum only to see that CDS has fried his 10D AND had his Mk II order slipped a couple months. (Since I bought mine at the same place, and considering I'm considerably deeper in the queue, I can only assume I'm also looking at May at the soonest, and very likely later.

No problem, I shall have it eventually. In the meantime, I'm still trying to learn how to master all the nuances of the 10D, so I'm fully challenged, even without Canon's latest and greatest.

CDS. I wish we lived closer. I'd happily loan you one of my 10Ds. Bummer.

That would be nice.. but They called me to tell me May 10th...

As far as April goes,. when I ordered the MkII I thought it was a mid March date but within days I was corrected and told Mid April. (website actually said one to two weeks, yes I was a fool to think that was possible)

So the recent change to May was not a 2 month change,.. but compared to what I thought when I actually ordered.. it is getting close to two months.

Mills

I was told they have 65 on order. First 15 by May 15, 2004 at the latest so both of you sound right.

Canon. 8)

They said from the get-go that deliveries would be start in April. As much as I love CDW, there's evidently an eager salesperson giving out dates when they do not know exactly when any cameras will arrive.

And I am not saying that CDS is wrong. He is just quoting what he was told, which was wrong.

If that's accurate, then I say, 'Whoopee!' I'm told I'm number 15. (What do you want to bet that somebody with clout gets me shoved back?)

Mills

And so-called 'corporate clout' doesn't move you up in line. It get's a slightly better price is all.

All I know is..the wait is killing me...
I have had the opportunity to shoot next to a few photogs from SI this past week. Shooting a D60 next to a 1D is like lining up a go-cart against a top fuel dragster. I just kept wispering to myself, a month is not a long time, ok two months is not a long time...

Another feature that has not been touched on is the voice recording capability. I am going to love that feature, because capturing image information is a must for me...now I won't have to write it down...
I had not noticed this till I shot next to someone using the feature.

And..I don't care what everyone says on this matter...8 fps is worth the extra cash. I watch this guy from SI pick from 8 frames, just the one that had all the right things going on in the image... Very cool.

Can I say anymore to get you guys wound up again? This seems to have turned into the thread for future MKII owners...

CyberDyneSystems
10th of March 2004 (Wed), 12:03
I am double wound up!

With the 10D off to repair.. I'm absolutely dieing for the MkII

The only thing I have that is a solid implication of the future MkII is the extra battery I allready got... and I take that out and hold it every few days!

8FPS! Absolutely.. when I think of how delecately I had to time the shots to get anything sefull for my little seagull diving series.... at 3FPS... the extra 5 would have been amazing.

Last year I saw a Kingfisher in a full hover over a salt marsh I was trudging through... I got it in focus in hover just in time to get a single shot before it dove.... I followed,. at 3 FPS as it plummetted.. the second shot caught it in mid dive,. the third.......... :(

..... all I got was the bird flying back OUT of the water.. the 3FPS was to slow for me to have gotten the impact on the water :(

...

This is the feature that will allow me to finally dump the EOS 1N (when I say dump, I mean try and recover enough cash to pay for an extra battery.....any offers ??)
