This on the same day that I am told I won't see a Mkii for two more months :(

Man I am bumming now!

Took the dogs and the Camera to a local park/refuge.. all set to get some nice pics.. there were some beautifull hooded mergansers asking to have there photos taken..

..error 99 .. stuck shutter.

(not lens related, I had the 70-200mm IS mounted.. and doesn't change when I switch lenses)

Last time it happend (November) it was a particularly cold day.. I eventually decided the cause was voltage drop.. this time it was 50 plus degrees partly cloudy..

I tried a new set of batteries.. same problem,. I removed Big Ed and tried the Canon battery (freshly re-charged) same problem.. the shutter was sticking.

Will be shipping to New Jersey for repair.. :(

They tell me 15 days :(

Man I am bummed... the best weather in MONTHS and NO Camera!

TWO MORE MONTHS

If I find a 1D in a local shop it is mine!

I'll figure out what to sell AFTER I get something,. anything to mount ly damn lenses on!

(allready called BestBuy to see of they had a 10D.. so I could just "trade" (extended warranty plan) but they won't ever be getting 10D's in again ... so they tried to get me to take a Rebel...

If you don't mind f*lm, go to KEH and pick up a used Elan II or something. You can probably get one in 2-3 days if you need it.

If you lived closer, I'd loan you my Elan 'till you get the tendee back. Its not a terrible camera, but it does put you at the mercy of the lab.

Tom,. I really appreciate the offer,. Thanks! :)

I am really a "digital only dude" at this point.. but on the other hand I have often thought an Elan would be a good emergency back up.. and this does qualify.. certainly cheaper than buying a Drebel of a few weeks use.

Aww man, that sucks big time. I'm taking my 10D in to CS next week to have it calibrated. 3-4 days. Going to have to carry the wife's A70
I'd go nuts if I was with out a camera. I'd have to concentrate on selling bikes

CDS, my condolenses. Where can I send the flowers? :(

IanD, I thought you already had sent out your camera to the repair center. I'm still waiting to hear back from them about getting mine back. It's been a week now since I took it in and I'm going batty without a camera. For the first few days, I was holding the Elan IIe in my hands to ease my withdrawal symptoms but it's not the same, especially without the Canon lenses and the darn things doesn't even have a battery in it so I can't even fire away with it just to hear the shutter go and the motor winder whir. You should see my lips. I've worn it raw!

It was in this week but the tech had to take a couple of days off to get ready for the Canon presentation here on the weekend. I pick it up yesterday and will return it on Monday. Did not want to be without it on the weekend.

So how often do you get your cameras calibrated? Where do you take it? Does it have to go a Canon Authorized Service Center (I thought there were only two in the US)? Just trying to get ready for proper care of my camera.

..error 99 .. stuck shutter.

Wow, that really sucks! I feel for you. Fortunately, I've only seen an error 99 once, and that was when the electronics in my brand new 17-40L went south.

fortunately for me, I've only seen the "err 99" message once on my 10D and that was only two weeks after I bought it.

turns out the err 99 message was from a crappy Tamron 28-75 lens that I tried on my camera. I then returned the lens and never saw the message again.

*Ozzie knocks on wood*
