Hi,
I took this one yesterday. When I got to the beach the lighthouse was the first thing to catch my eye though getting an effective photo of it was challenging as there was not a whole lot to work with and it was a little early in the evening to get a dramatic sunset with it. Anyway this was what I came up with. Do you like it. Does it work well? I mean the vertical composition with the drift wood right up front and the lighthouse at the very top?
Thank you
Martin Paul.

I like the transition of colour from yellow to blue :), and that pool of mirror smooth water looks great :D.
It would be interesting to see what it might look like if you got a better reflection out of that smooth pool of water.

Sadly there is nothing I can really bring out in the water reflection. Believe me I tried! I could add something with Photoshop but I'll probably just leave it as is rather than run the risk of it looking fake.

I like this shot MP! Any critique is now a matter of preference so, pretty subjective. So here goes, whilst I like the zingy blue it looks a bit unatural to me and this, with all that foreground is a very natural, organic looking shot. Landscapes that are a bit more "choolate boxy" in my view, are ok with really saturated colour... Having said that, it might be a monitor thing!
I would have tried to get the lighthouse/island/rock to the upper-left of the shot because I think the symetry isn't so good with this one.... This is evident for me with the driftwood in the lower portion off centre. A more pleasing effect and something I would never have noticed until I got the shot on my PC!
I am thinking about a night shot at the moment with a very angular bridge reflected in a dirty puddle in a small valley below it. I will need to get very low to get the bridge in the puddle and wonder if here, you had been lower you might have got the lighthouse reflected? That's tricky I know, and the change of perspective might not have helped the shot.
Anyway, it's good, very good and If I had taken it, I would be more than happy.
Thank you for posting

Nice picture! I think the compostion works, possible I'd put in some more space below the driftwood. The blue color seems too saturated though, especially the pool in the middle and the small puddles in front of it look artificial to me. I'd love to see this picture with a paler blue.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Your critiques have been very helpful. I have changed the image so that the blue is less 'zingy'. You might have to refresh your cache to see that change. I think the photo is better this way.
Thank you again
Martin.
