I have owned a canon s30 for about 3 or 4 yrs anf loved still do then i went out and upgraded to an s50 very disappointed with it.Fo a 5 mp camera it takes lousy pics, and i viewd the movie mode on the camera and on the tv very, very blurry, and on the s30 i always used the vivid mode, and in the daylight used the day light mode and the pics on the s30 came out sharper and better, maybe i am not using my s50 right i wish ,some one could explain all the settings and what they acually mean like iso apeture, white balance, and why my pic aren't coming out like a 5 mp should be. :(

I have an S50. I love it.

sometimes the focus has a hard time focusing so i just close it and open it back up then it's fine. at night it has a tough time too. :( but I live with it.

I usually take pictures on P that automatically picks the aperature and shutter speed
A for aperature
T for shutter speed

there is a C but i forget what that does...

check out the white balace... it's good to adjust it to whatever you need. read the manual

I have a lot of my photos here with the S50 www.photo-chat.com

I just purchased one myself and so far the camera seems fine. I am comparing the photos to my 300D with a nice 50mm 1.4 lens so of course the camera isn't going to match up. That being said it appears to be a superb tool for taking snapshot photos on the go and we carry it with us everywhere.

I would also suggest shooting the camera in P mode until you have time to learn how the camera operates. Find a basic book or search the web for an introduction to photography and then practice. That's what's great about digital, you can shoot to your heart's content.

You have a very powerfull camera that actually has more features then the 300D. If you learn how to use them you'll have some great images I'm sure.

Good luck and please don't judge a camera for its movie mode!
