The first one is, in my humble newbie opinion, the best - you still get the framing effect without taking up too much real estate in the picutre. I would play with the contrast just slightly in PS and see if you can get it a little more punchy.

I like what you were working toward, framing with the tree trunks. I would suggest the following:
-- Less tree trunk. They dominate the image. You could have half the mass on each side and still achieve your goal. In the same vein, I like the first image better because you show more beach and less trunk.
-- Your horizon looks crooked. It's important to check your horizon on shots like this.

The beach was a bit dirty with sticks and stuff so I wanted to take one that didn't have too much sand in it. I agree, more beach would make it better...
I sort of like how the horizon is crooked but it probably wouldve been better if it was level...ill try that next time for sure...thanks...
