Hi Again,

I have another post from today asking for input on the 70-200 f/4 vs the f2.8...

Now I'm second guessing myself because I'm actually going to replace my Tamron 28-75 with whichever I choose...

I shoot indoor portrait, and outdoor portrait.. the 200mm is a very appealing focal length because I think the background blur at 200 will be amazing!

The 24mm focal length is appealing because I'll need it indoors....

Can't make up my mind on which is best.. I can only afford to purchase one lens right now and I'm afraid I'll miss the f2.8 with the shorter focal length, so think I should keep my eye on the 24-70L for the future .....

Please tell me your thoughts, input, experiences...

The reason why I am all fired up to upgrade is because I was playing with someone else's camera over the weekend... the 70-200 f/4... MAN! The focusing motor was soooooo smooth compared to the Tamron, and the focus grabbed right away.

Tamron is a great little lens, but often times I have to manual focus because it just doesn't grab quickly enough for me. I also find myself shooting at the long end of it often so keep thinking I want something longer.

So here are my choices, and I can only buy one right now...

24-70 f/2.8L
24-105 f/4 (L?? right?) It's good enough for Dante and that speaks volumes to me.
70-200L f/4 IS

Thanks for entertaining my questions.. If you would like to post any examples to support your recommendation, please feel free. :)

Happy Day~

For more inline with "general purpose" I would get the 24-105. (17-55IS is more general purpose on a cropper...though that is probably too short for you)

Otherwise if your interest lies longer, than 70-200 f/4 IS for certain.

These lens still do "hunt" if you don't have enough contrast. When it does focus it does focus fast and quietly!

The 70-200 f/4 IS outdoors is a fantastic lens!

Thanks for the feedback guys... I'm leaning towards the 70-200 f4.... I can sell the Tamron later and get the Canon 24-70 version when the time is right... I just can't stop thinking about that better focusing motor... smoooooth. :) Having the 200mm length could be lots of fun too! :)

The tamron is a pretty sweet lens... thats a keeper unless you really want a 24-70 L lens.

The 70-200 is a must have for any canon shooters bag. Most used lens for me. Studio, portrait, you name it...
