Planning on getting some new glass from B&H and was curious if anyone has experience with their MACK warranties? Are they worth getting? How do they work? I called B&H but didn't get a really definitive answer (think the woman on the phone was a receptionist.)

Is it worth getting one for each lense? Should I have gotten one for my camera?

Opinions and insight appreciated.

Yes, they are worth it... just make sure you fill out the paperwork on time or else you'll loose your money. I've read elsewhere on this forum where someone missed the deadline and therefore ended up paying for extended warranty that they couldn't use. ( http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=24319 )

Would have been nice to also get it for your camera. I didn't get one for my camera and found myself seraching online for extended an warranty through a third party. Kind of pricey, but live and learn. Can't remember who I went through, but I think I ended up paying about an extra $150 for a 3 year extension on my 10D

Take a look at:
http://www.mackcam.com/warranty.html

You can buy the warranty up to 30 days after buying the camera. I've no experience of using them, so I'd be interested in your experience if you do get one :-)

I have recently heard of some problems with them, such as the two people who authorize repair costs being out "indefinitely", not responding to repair center requests for authorization for months. Email inquiries about claims being COMPLETELY ignored, etc. One person says that his $4,400.00 Nikkor lens has been in for repair for over FOUR months because MACK is dragging it's feet. I have Mack warranty on some things, but I wouldn't do it again until they straighten their act out.

I have always suspected that a Mack warranty was pretty worthless. I posted a question about experiences with Mack warranties and the thread went unresponded to. I would think someone would have had some experience with them. Mack just seems too good to be true. It seems like false security. I have never seen a post "Great feedback about Mack Warranty" or "They could not fix my 1D so they gave me a 1D MII as a replacement" and I probably never will.

Thanks for the feedback guys - I wasn't sure what to make of it and may check into that warrantybynet.com site that was recommended. Thanks for the advice.

I have heard good and bad when it comes to Mack warranties but this story really bothered me.
