Many of the stapeliads have unusual but oultely gorgeous flowers. to bad some of them smell so bad. Curiously, there was a major reclassificaton this year. Stapeliads, it turns out, are closely related to the sweet smeeling plumaria.

Irwin, It is noce to see something other than bugs. Not that the insect photos aren't interesting, but it is nice to see other subjects.

Nice shots Irwin, - interesting that most Stapeliad flowers do look very similar to the famous giant one whatever it's called.

All of the stapeliad flowers are based on a series of fives--five petals, five carolla lobes and many are hairy--so many do resemble Stapelia gigantea in many respects. I have not, as yet, tried to grow some of the stanger exotics with the spectacular flowers, quite unlike anything I have seen. I've shied away because they are hard to obtain, pricy, and rot if you look at then in the wrong way.
I will aquire a Stapelia erectifolia with its unique flowers, as soon as Miles Anderson is able to propagate sufficient stock to sell. This shot should please you, Brian, as the center of the flower looks a bit like a bug. :) (Sorry Wayne ;) ). The brachyestelma also has a an interesting flower that looks like a birdcage. The picture is of my my buddy, Alan Foster's plant.
Best regards
Irwin

As for my comments about not being a "bug" photo I was merely noting that well over half of the photos in the Macro section are of "bugs" and there are other things to photograph, Like interesting flowers. And yours are interesting, Very Interesting.
