Man, all I can say is Canon marketing has done a good job in these forums. They are getting as bad as the other love of my life....golf clubs.

It seems every year we all can't wait (or are told by the marketing gurus) for the next best thing. My friend has a EOS 1Ds and the latest Callaway Golf irons, woods, putters, etc.

I can still take better pictures than him with my D60, and I take his money on the golf course every week with my undersize driver and well worn Lynx irons!

Hahaha

Well, would you try persimmon? lol

I had a buddy that worked at the Callaway headquarters, I got the latest and greatest every year, free, but I eventually gravitated back to the irons they put out very early in the Callaway sting of irons. I even had the set that cost like $1,400, they stunk. Oh well. Overall though, we have to admit, the new technology of golf has allowed players to get better distances than ever. I recall back in the late 70's, Jack Nicklaus lead the tour in driving distance, or was second, with something like 278 yards. Now, that wouldn't probably put you in the top 50! Balls, titanium, shafts, have all improved, beyond any doubt, one just has to look through all the BS to find what works and what is hype.

That said, photography gear seems like much of the same, you made a decent analogy. But, here, instead of some hype about a bigger cc head, it is MP and other things. Automatic dust removal? lol BUT, cameras have NO DOUBT also have made a tech run of their own in improvements, and it ain't hype. But, the closer we get to perfection, the more and more of the chasing the latest and greatest is truly BS hype. As with golf right now, photography is running up against the wall in how much further can we travel down the road of improvements, versus hype. It is getting closer each year.

Heck, as a kid (I'm old, 54 now) I used to see commercials about shavers that were so good, your face was as smooth as a baby's bottom, same thing with detergents, whiter than white! So how can they come out every few years with "new and improved?" Somebody in the ad departments across America, they have a job, sell, sell, sell, and Katie bar the door how they do it!

I look forward to the new Mark IIN replacement, hopefully soon, and that will be my last camera! Hahahahahha, I have a garage full of putters too!

Damn, all that said, I can't golf anymore due to my back. I'd give every camera and every lens to have the physical ability to continue golfing. Enjoy every round, despite your score, as a golf lover, I never thought I could go without it. It is a test, I WANNA GOLF!!!!!!!!!

I hate golf and no matter what kind of clubs I rent they don't work worth a damn.

I find the pictures I take with my 20D aren't really any better than the ones I took with my EOS 3, but they are more pleasant to work with.

I agree Joe, but the point is you still have to set parameters, compose and snap the picture, and in golf you still have to set up, and fire the shot. Too many in each activity think that if you get better equipment, you automatically get better.

Too often we forget that we are a big part of both activities. Getting the latest and best technology should certainly help, but we still will have us to deal with!

Absolutely 100% agree with you. Rereading my post, I can't believe I touched on the fact that no matter the putter, driver, wedge, or camera, one still has to have the talent to use them. You could give a total hack Tiger Wood's putter and it wouldn't improve the guy on iota. Damn I miss golf! I just gave my brother four dozen personally imprinted Titlest Pro V 1's. Ouch. So it has been about two years since I have teed it up, is the Pro V still the ball on top of the pack?
