I'm leaning real heard towards the thought of selling my g3 and getting a smaller compact (canon brand).
I am correct in that none of these cameras have raw functions and all use SD memory. ?
any thoughts from anyonethe moved from an g series to real compact camera.

None have raw. All current models as far as I know take SD. I have an 800is (ixus 850), an S3IS and a 400D. I've also owned a Panasonic FZ7. If you only want snapshots, then I'm sure you'll find an 800is perfectly acceptable. If you are a pixel peeper then IQ won't be up to your standards. Also bear in mind that yo'l have very little manual control. Having said all that, I love my 800is and if I had to choose to keep just one of my cameras, then that is what it would be. It's perfectly acceptable for 90% of my photographs and it fits in my pocket.

Yeah, the 800IS is a superb little pocket camera. It is the only camera i own, and i took it to Vegas a few months ago :)
