Because it's a "transcend" which I believe is the same as the "magicstor" - just rebranded. The "magicstor" is notorious around here for not behaving well in 10Ds or other Canon cameras. Do a search for "magicstor", read the posts and then avoid the product like the plague.

It's cheap because it's a microdrive, and is probably in the same quality as MagicStor brand, which is very bad.
Transcend compact flash is OK (I have the 30x 1Gig), but I'm not sue about their microdrive since this seems like the first time they are selling microdrive. I had very bad experience with the MagicStor 2.2Gig Microdrive so I suggest staying away from this one too.
If you want microdrive, IBM or Hitachi for the newer 2/4Gig (which bought out IBM microdrive department) is the better and only choice.

I just bought a FUJI off EBAY and it works great...
256MB for $45 with shipping... Not a bad deal if you ask me.

Are you sure about that or is that just a guess from 'something you've heard'? Transcend actually produces some fine CF cards, but if that is the Magicstor—rebadged—then stay far, far away from it.

Jim,
Thus far, only MagicStor manufactures the 2.2GB MD. All you have to do is Google for key words 2.2GB microdrive & Magicstor and see what you got. By this time, the 2.2GB reputation should be well spread enough, no link here is needed. If you have any reservation that the experiences we share here are unreliable, go ahead and get one. It's your money.
Regards,
Alan

I have no intentions of buying one and that's not what I was asking for links. We do need proof (links) that the Transcend is indeed a rebadged Magicstore. Just because one person says it is so does not make it gospel. How do we know that Transcend did not start making their own 2.2?
The reason I am asking is that this forum prides itself in not allowing rampant rumors to guide its members.
Thank you,
