Hey folks I been reading these boards ever since I got my 10D back in June. Since then I have seen references made to the 85mm f1.8 USM as being the closest you'll get to "L" glass without spending the big bucks for it. I could not agree more. I used it last night at a concert and was floored by the results. I used it again this afternoon in my weekly walk around town and again I am floored by everything this lens has to offer.

So to all of you who have praised this lens and given it two thumbs up... THANK YOU!!!

Cheers,

I bought one yesterday, but haven't even had it out of the box. I'm very anxious to see what it can do. I also bought the lens hood (which is certainly not a bargain).

Oh yeah, I've touted this lens as being one of the "must have" lenses in canon's non L line. Isn't the thing simply amazing? It's definately my favorite prime. Great performer at a reasonable price.

I agree the hood isn't a bargain. I think it's absurd to sell a lens without the hood. Kinda like selling the 100mm macro without the hood or tripod ring. For the price, everything should be included. That's one thing I do fault canon for at times - the aftermarket gouging of customers on certain lens "accessories". What a crock.

I had to sell mine :( just the other day-and i've only used it a few times......

I buy and sell 2nd hand gear and needed to balance income and expenditure
(i.e i needed cash in a hurry:oops: )
i intended to keep this one and sell the 100macro but it's being repaired right now.
Nevermind i can allways buy another one :?

If you buy the 85mmm 1.2L you get the hood "thrown" in
