As I read a lot of things about new canon cameras, I figured out that those predictions comes with the fact that it's a canon anniversary : 20 years for EOS and 70 years for the company.
It seems that canon don't see that point as they do not advetise that point...
so may be none of the improvement will come...

For reasons previously discusssed a time or two (cough cough), Canon would be foolish to start talking about replacements before they are released, as it would basically stop all camera sales, and that's bad for business. They are being especially tight-lipped, I agree. But the fact remains that the Ds2 is going on 3 years since an upgrade, and that is a long time in Canon terms, compared with the timing of upgrages in recent years.
I know, at some point it almost becomes therapeutic to say, "Forget it, they aren't going to do anything," but I think a little more patience and we'll see plenty of upgrades to make lots of folks happy. And yes, that is just my opinion.
I saw where a camera store in the Netherlands "accidentally" posted a 1Ds Mk III for sale on their website (13,300 euros) earlier today. Woopsie.

I love rumors, but this isn't realistic. Canon's marketing department knows that it's target audiences for the 1D might (might) be willing to go $10,000 US... but $17,000+?
Nope.

Tell it to the folks on the Netherlands web site. It's not a rumor, it's a statement of something that happened.

£8000 Isnt too hard to believe really when you consider whats still currently available however I would expect the price to be more towards the £6500 for the Mark IIIs

Canon would prefer to release a new 1D-series once every 3-4 years rather than every 18 or 24 months, both Canon's and Nikon's pro-level 35mm film SLRs took 8-10 years to be replaced and throughout their reigns, better technologies have been featured in these companies' entry-level and midrange 35mm SLRs. The next-generation pro levels would featured the technologies already found in the previous entry-level and midrange models.
For example - 1/250 sec. and 1/4000 were pioneered in Nikon's FM2 and FE2, then came the F-801 (N8008 ) which featured 1/8000 top shutter speed! And the Nikon F4 of 1988 only featured all these when it was introduced as its predecessor, Nikon F3 couldn't.
As for Canon, 16-zone Evaluative metering and 5-point AF first came with the EOS 5 film SLR in 1992, the original EOS-1 of 1989 only has a single point AF and 6-zone Evaluative metering. The next pro SLR, the EOS-1N of 1994, had the 16-zone metering and 5-point AF. Gap between the introduction of the original and the successor was 5 years - it had been shortened from the previous 8 years between the company's manual focus SLR, the New F-1 and the first EOS-1.
The current 21-zone Evaluative metering and 45-point AF were first seen in the EOS-3 of 1998, followed by Canon's existing pro 35mm SLR, EOS-1v but the gap between the latter and the EOS-1N was 6 years.
Of course, in the digital arena, anything longer than 4 years would be considered as outdated and obsolete!
Fortunately for Canon, it has no competition where full-frame and 1.3x crop factor DSLRs are concerned and could afford to have a new model every 3-4 years for as long as its rivals could not catch up!
The 1D MK II was introduced in Jan 2004 partly due to competitions from the 4.15MP Nikon D2H and 5MP Olympus E-1, both of which threatened the marketability of the 4.15MP EOS-1D then. The 1D MK II and the N version are way ahead of the competitions and Canon is in no hurry to introduce a replacement model yet (PMA 2007 may just see a new model, though).

I hope that they keep the price around the 1Ds Mark II range, I think under $8K would be great...anything more, I would rather buy a new 5D II unless the specs on the 1Ds MKIII blow me away.

Yep. So $17k will more likely be $14k State-side.
Still a heck of a lot of money though.
But if it is that price, I might even consider a 1Ds MK II instead of a 5D or 5D MK II. The price should be just about right at that point.

More like $8500 for the yankees and $17000 for those across the pond.

Please remember people that prices in Europe, including Holland, are more expensive in general, and include tax (which is 15-20%). So that price is around range.

And it's still listed on that website. You can even click the "buy" button (I can only assume it's the buy button) and put it in your "winkelwagen." (shopping cart?)
