I checked my firmware update and it says it is 1.0.0, there is 2.0.0 out there, it says the only change is to allow it to print directly to printers... anyone done this yet? is it necessary?

The only change is the enabling of PictBridge, but you'll need a printer that supports PictBridge printing. SO if you don't have such a printer, don't bother.

I upgraded my A70, even though I don't have a printer to take advantage of the upgrade!
I only did it to do 'something' one evening... Doing the upgrade wiped out my settings, so I had to re-set a few things... No performance or usability increase what so ever (well, Canon doesn't mention any, and I haven't noticed any...) Although now it says the firmware version is 2.0.0 instead of 1.0.0 :)
Some folks have managed to messed up their cameras doing the upgrade so be careful if you do decide to do it...

I wish Canon came with a new firmware update for S50, that would work on the red-eye reduction.

I upgraded my S50 with no problems, and also nothing noticable different in features (except being able to print directly from the camera, which I do not use). I have the Canon I9100 printer and really do not know if it supports the upgrade and have not look to find out. I always look at the pics in Photoshop or iPhoto before I print anyway.

I upgraded mine to 2.0.0.0 just for grins and to see if I could do it without destroying the camera. Besides I was bored and wanted something to do. I have an I5000 printer so theoretically I could use the Pictbridge stuff I think but I always pull the pics off with a card reader and then mess with them later. Now if I could just figure out what destroyed a Sandisk Ultra II card a week or so ago. Dead horse now. Good thing I have other cards and dont leave pics on the cards anyway.
