As a novice to digital i recently took some pics in video format instead of normal photos. Is there a way of converting clips from video into stills?

Also when I load the pics onto my hard drive using the canon software supplied it seems to take up too much space. Any tips please? e.g. can I store the pics on cds?

Hiya!

The only way you're gonna get any semblence of satisfaction is by opening the vid in a vid editing package and pull individual stills from there. Remember that the vid quality is *low* compared to still images and the resolution will be way down (i think around 320*240 compared to 22xx*17** for stills).

I'm not sure what shareware to use, but adobe premier should do it - never had call for it myself, though. :)

Thanks for the suggestion Gorbs,

I'll give it a try.

Did your camera come with a video editor? My S30 came with ArcSoft VideoImpression. If that's the case, the bundled software might be able to do the job for you, and a lot cheaper than Adobe Premiere.

And if you really just want the picture, you can 'cheat'. Play the video at full size, then do a screen capture. In Windows, press the Alt+PrintScreen to grab the active window to the clipboard, then paste it into a photo editor and crop. I don't know how to do screencaps with a Mac, but there are lots of shareware/freeware programs out there for both platforms.

Hope I don't get banned for this suggestion.
