Hello everyone. I purchased a Canon A540 a couple months ago based on the good reviews I've read online, because I love taking pictures and wanted a camera with a few more "advanced" options (I like landscape photography - I got hooked after snapped some gorgeous shots in Yosemite). I've used digital cameras for years (although this is my first Canon), but I currently only know the basics of taking pictures. Anyway, I finally got up the nerve to start playing with some of the settings on my camera (previously I had only been using the Auto setting), and after seeing someone use the feature and having my curiosity sparked, I figured out how to use the Color Accent feature with the video setting, and I loved the results.

Now, my question: Is is possible to do a Color Accent with still photos with the A540? And if yes, how can I do this (a walk-through would be appreciated - keep in mind I'm a newbie:D).

Thank you so much in advance; I'm hoping to learn a lot from these forums.

You can find the information on color accent for both still and video on page 60-61 of the Advanced Camera User Guide that came with the camera. If you no longer have the manual you can download it at http://alpha02u.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?RQF=MENU&RQS=WWUCA910&LA=1169871636223&SV=WWUCA900&menu=MA&TRF=MAIN
or go to http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=12942
then click on Support and Download Library to download the Basic and Advanced manual.
Basically, it works the same way as video mode except you turn it to SCN then select the color accent mode. The default color is green but if you have already changed the color for the video mode then you already know how to change the color for the still images.
Good luck.

Fantastic; I had company in town and had to do a quick cleanup, during which my manual got lost.

I'm in love with this camera; I keep finding new things it does each time I use it (I'm terrible about not reading manuals). The Color Accent setting is awesome - adds a nice new element to black and white photos (which I love).

Again, thank you!
