Hi all.. hope everyone is having a good weekend. this weeks theme is the oh soo popular everybody can do it snapshot. I suppose this means a simple photograph. Taken just for kicks.. not for the artistic element or to convey a feeling or emotion, just a shot like your mom took when you were a kid, or like the photos everybody takes at birthday parties.. can be soo cheesy as your kid grinning into the camera with a bad exposure.. Hey, if you have one use a Point and shoot. Okay, it sounds a little goofy but it could be fun.. Rules are all the same photos can be taken from sunrise on friday to sunset on sunday.. two is the forum limit.. good luck, happy shooting.

Well it's Australia Day here. Our national day if you will. I was in the country with my relatives, so we did what all good Aussies should do; we went down the creek, sat in the shade, drank beer, shoo'd flies, squashed ants and complained about the heat....

I was standing IN the creek...cooler there!

Tommy -- Your 1st one has me guessing. Is it a snowblower? The 2nd one gives me a calm feeling.
Medic85 -- At first I thought the animal was a odd-looking dog! Glad you straightened me out.
Saravrose -- Winter carnival looks like lots of fun for everyone. Like your timing on the 1st one.
Meaty0 -- Gee, that sounds like a typical 4th of July here in rural PA. Except we throw in some fireworks, sparklers and mosquitoes.
Here is mine for the weekend. It's a house that I've driven past regularly for years. Now it's either being restored or dismantled for salvage. I'm patiently watching it to see which is happening. My grey, featureless sky matches Tommy's. The sky here has been that way for over a week now.

Tommy - #2 would definetly be a shot I would take, the colorful buildings scream to be photographed
Chris - Awwwww
Sari - Great capture of colors and eyes, oh my goodness the eyes.
Paul - Not much different than how we spend summer holidays. Too funny that you are in the creek keeping cool.
Barbara - Looks like it was quite a house in its time. Hopefully it will be once again.
This past week we had our national sale meeting. Friday I took my camera and was able to get the following shots.
#1 was outside another conference room, our Elmhurst Design Studio team requested this shot, in preparation for next weekends Super Bowl.

#2 was after dinner at a local micro brew

Well, I had some better snapshotesque examples, but I did a bonehead move and accidentally bumped the ISO to 3200 (ok, I put it there on purpose, but then forgot to move it back down before going back to where there was light). I couldn't figure out how in the world I kept blowing out the highlights sooo much -- then when I realized it I was so ticked off I deleted a bunch of shots.
Here then, are my kids at the Seattle Mariners Fanfest. They'd just visited the face painting booth. The sun was low in the sky behind home plate, so these could have been my entries for a "fill-flash" topic, too. :)

Here is my son...I took him to the lake to feed the ducks and watch the seagulls fight for the food. Well dont you know, he saw the dock where all the seagulls were sitting and wanted to go on it. As much as I told him no, he wanted to go, so I let him. That thing was covered with gull poo, so I took a picture of him on it and I am going to put it with with rest of the I told you so pics, so when he gets older he can realize how much a goof he was

Oops. I forgot to post my snap yesterday evening like I promised. Here it is. It's the animation building at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, across the street from where I work.

I love that building, Lonnie. I used to work for the Mouse, and when they first opened that building I got a pretty extensive tour. The office inside the hat was stunning.

There's an office inside the hat? How cool! I'd love to take a tour of the place. Too bad it's so overshadowed by the newer ABC building right next to it now... I wanted to get a shot of it from the freeway on the other side too, but the trees have grown so much you can hardly see it from there either.
I run a "Disneyland Resort Mystery Photo" game on my web site, and last Thursday I took a photo of the animation building's replica in California Adventure. I decided yesterday morning to grab a quick snap of this one to put on the page too, for when I post the answer. :)

My nephew's birthday was the event of the weekend over here, it was mini golf but turned into more of a hockey-speed-golf thing.

Snapshots was a great idea for the weekend.
We had some family over, lots of food, lots of fun.
First shot, how about a little basketball?
Second shot: we have a water bucket outdoors for the dogs to drink from. My nephew thought if it was good enough for the dogs, it was good enough for him. And like the loving, caring aunt that I am..I ran for the camera before stopping him.

How cold is it Becca? How about a picture of the scene in your street...ice, snow etc. At least that'll make me feel better about the oppressive heat we have at the moment.

I didn't take any photos, but we had a high on Saturday of 8F, with winds around 25mph. That made the windchills around -11. I would gladly trade you for the hot weather! I'll take my camera with me to work this morning and see if I can find some chilly images for you! :)

Here ya go Paul! It was about 12F for these shots... I don't know if the coyote really had no interest at all in the birds (he never moved faster than a stroll) or if this was some sort of unsuccessful tactic to sneak up on them... :)

Yeah, I suppose the heat isn't as inconvenient as the cold. I shouldn't really complain, but snowscapes are so picturesque!

Thanks Beth,
Wow! That looks chilly. Are coyotes scared of humans? Will they approach any closer? We have a similar wild dog (we call them dingoes) and they are quite unafraid of humans and will raid their campsites and steal food and stuff.

Coyotes are pretty skittish and will steer clear of humans. At least the ones *I've* met have responded that way. Maybe around campsites they've adapted aa bit.

Thanks!! Can't possibly practice enough! :D
(I'm typing on a little (10") laptop that I got a *great* deal on, on Ebay and I'm putting it through it's paces. I think this is gonna be PERfect for our trip!)

When is the trip to Africa?
And what are we shooting this weekend? I had a thought inspired by a fellow POTN'r about finally shooting something we've been meaning to try "fer like ever".

This mean't a lot to my friend Charlie, and his 200 f2. To say the least, he met another guy when we were shooting with the 200 f2, who he knew from dpreview (never met in real life before though), and that guy said he knows 1 more guy in Toronto with this lens.
