So not the easiest sport to photograph. I finally learned I can shoot from the box at the end of the 2nd period. so I shot through some reallly ugly glass which was ridiculously dirty. When I finally moved to near the penalty box I was able to stand on a bench and get some above the glass. here are some of the better results that I liked better, and this is out of 250 shots. Please let me know how I can do better before the next game saturday night. thank you!

Nice shots for first attempt. What is the exif info for the photos though? I really like #1, was he tripped up or just fell on his own? Good job on the tight cropping. One thing I am noticing is the color of the players faces, they all look reddish, actually all the photos except for #1 have a reddish haze to them. Did you use a custom white balance? And without giving all the same advice in another thread check >> here (http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=268231) << for a bunch of good links from other members. Hope to see more from you.

he was tripped up but at least he was still going for it but unfortunately it didn't go in :-( we lost that night. but rematch tonite! should be good cuz I know they want revenge. I think I just shot these under tungsten, about 320 2.8 iso800. I wish I could have gotten more like the first one but the action was so fast and I'm so short still after standing on the bench in the box. :-(

disneydork - short is good. Gives you a better upward angle for seeing faces inside the helmets. Sometimes I crouch down to shoot, especially peewees & younger. Bump your ISO to 1600, expose to get the ice peak on the histogram far to the right (not all the way), and you should get a faster shutter.

the action was so fast
that's what makes it hockey. you want baseball? (sorry).
