Suckers

Not much longer until we know something concrete, I'm going to guess about 3-4 weeks.

My best guess is a new 1 series, who knows if they'll merge or not but it would be pretty cool if they did. I'm kinda eiffy about the idea of a detachable grip.

30D update

Maybe something else little.

What do you think will happen?

It looks like the 1Ds Mk III and the 40D are going to be released shortly.

There is another web page in another dutch site preparing the announcement of the 1Ds Mk III:

http://www.fimex.nl/fimex/RAPRD/CANON-EOS-1-DS-MARK-III-/100016719.html?ab_agid=80010

For the 40D, everybody already knows the possible leak at Canon HK.

Possible new announcements will be coming for the end of the summer season; may be the 5D upgrade ...

Sorry, but probably you will have to wait two months at least to get one of the new bodies ... :)

I can imagine, Canon doesn't sell a lot of 1 series but when they release a new one every pro will want one. (Esp. sports guys)

That site has no specs on it anymore.

No one site has published specs yet !! :) :) :)

The two dutch sites (that look from similar partners) has open a page for the 1Ds MkIII but empty, only the price has appear in one of them: 13.363€ > $17.000    .

That's assuming the 1Ds will improve on its burst speed from the current 4fps, which I don't see them doing if they are increasing the pixel count to 22mp. If they did that, the 1D MkII may be relegated to history.

Personally I don't see the need for more than 4 fps at 22mp's. How many MF cameras could even get close to 4fps? I mean, sure, the more the merrier, but logistically, it's better to have a lower-mp camera doing the fast work, for sports guys and PJ's, and a high-resolution jobber for landscapes and studio work. I like the current breakdown, but maybe it's just Stockholm Syndrome talking.

If they bump the Ds2 up to 22mp (not a given at this point), then a corresponding bump for the D2N would be up to maybe 12mp's, which would be plenty for 8fps. More than you actually need for papers and mags, probably. I've heard that around 11mp's is where digital starts to surpass film anyway.

I agree that PJs and sports photogs may not need 22mb with 8fps burst speed. I was only responding to the earlier poster who suggested that a new 1Ds with 22mb may appeal to that crowd. I don't see that happening unless they improve the 4fps burst speed.

Aha. Gotcha. I agree.

Actually that was with me assuming that the 1 series merged.

But of course, if they did not merge and the 1D MKIIn remained then hardly any sports photog would switch.

Suckers

It takes no brains or courage for you to post with a bogus thread title.

I'm with Ipacmm. I am going to purchase a 1 series body soon and can't wait to see the PMA announcements.

You think? With the other releases of lower end cameras, Canon anticipated the need pretty well and had adequate supplies. I don't see a two month backlog at all, maybe a few days here and there, depending on who you order from and if they discount it at all. Are you just guessing or do you related experiences with Canon?

True, just - take note - sense of humour.

I hope you are wright (I wishhhh it !!!!) but if all Canon announcements are done 3-5 days before PMA + a couple of weeks to be in the dealers; from now is almost two months ....:)

Actually, the superbowl comment might not be all that far-fetched. Canon is a heavy favourite for a lot of sports photographers and the superbowl is probably the most watched sporting event outside of the World Cup. It's a natural pairing.

I keep seeing this mentioned ("natural pairing", etc.), but I just don't see why people think it makes sense.

"Lots of sports photographers use Canon" and "Lots of people watch Superbowl" doesn't imply "lots of sports photographers watch superbowl" (or at least not in statistically significant numbers).

Now if I were a photographer covering the Superbowl, I'd be interested in using a new sport camera to cover it, but I'd want that thing in my hands a few weeks (at least) in advance. Announcing it on TV while I'm down on the sidelines is going to do me diddly-squat.

If I were Canon, the only reason I'd advertise at the Superbowl was for the huge audience, in which case, I'd launch a product aimed at the masses. Nope, I just don't see the argument for "Canon's going to launch a pro sport camera at a pro sport event."
